If you’ve been struggling with this condition, we understand that it’s likely having an impact on your confidence. Pulling hair isn’t something people can control, and they then feel embarrassed and upset when they begin seeing bald patches, usually beginning around the crown of the head. At Indulge, we’re proud to be a trichotillomania hair salon that uses extensions to restore hair loss due to the condition. We have a huge choice of extensions and application methods so whatever stage you have reached with your hair loss, we can help. We have hair extensions for trichotillomania such as tape-ins which build lost volume quickly as each tape provides a large swatch of quality hair. We also have cylinder extensions that cover your existing hair and clamp up at the root. These are lightweight and don’t have the damage risk of adhesives, so can be a great choice for fragile hair which is common with trichotillomania.

How Extensions Can Help the Condition

We are a hair and beauty salon and therefore can’t treat a mental health issue, so we’d recommend reaching out to a doctor if you’re struggling. However, trichotillomania hair extensions can not only help to restore your confidence but can help with the physical act of pulling the hair. People with this condition don’t want to pull out their hair, but they feel compelled to. Most do it in private and try to hide the hair loss. When you introduce hair extensions, it makes it harder to get to your natural hair and it’s very hard to pull out extensions due to the adhesives used. Adding this barrier can help reduce the compulsion as there is no longer instant gratification. You also need to have a maintenance routine at the salon and look after the extensions well at home with moisturizing, shampooing, and brushing regularly. This helps set new hair routines which can also reduce the compulsion and help people love their hair again.

Restore Confidence with Trich Hair Extensions

At Indulge Salon, we thrive on helping our clients look and feel their best and when they’ve come to us with hair loss due to trichotillomania, it’s even more important. After training in countries around the world, our founder is confident she and her team have the skills to give you your shine back. We’ll combine trich hair extensions with our incredible hair color and styling to give you a makeover that will remind you of your beauty inside and out. During your initial consultation, we’ll talk you through the best options for you and explain the maintenance procedures. After a patch test, it’s time to install those important extensions to give you back the hair you’ve lost. Best of all, we can add extensions, cut, and color all in one day so once you’ve made the brave decision to reach out for help it won’t be long before you see the impressive results. We also offer beauty treatments in our York and Georgia salons so you can make an appointment to treat yourself and relax too, which can help your stress levels and ease your condition.

We’d love to help you on your hair regrowth journey so reach out to our friendly team at 717.846.4424 to get started. You deserve it.

Are hair extensions right for you?

Hair extensions are the new normal today. Used to be for celebrities but now they are for everyone. Aren’t you a celebrity too? So many different kinds which one to choose from Sew-in’s, hybrids, beaded, I-tips, Fusion, Micro Beads and Tape in hair extensions, clip-ins that give instant volume and length give the “look” immediately.

Try on a color without a committment with human hair extensions that can be colored, blended and multi-toned by just stacking them to give a beautiful result without having to worry about your highlights fading.

At Indulge Salon, York, Pa, we carry a variety of types of hair extensions that meet the needs of our clients that have fine thin hair. Post cancer hair clients have desires to have hair to camouflage the new growth giving a feeling of confidence again after such an emotional roller coaster.

We have seen hair breakage from over processing, pony tailing breakage and much more. With hair extensions installed the proper way, we have found over time, the natural hair grew even more because it was protected by a layer of human hair extensions that took the brunt of a pony tail. Its almost miraculous to see on a daily basis at the salon.

Over time, the hair will grow and stay longer with protected hair. Give them a try to see what you think.

As you can see we have a new type of tape in that has hair fused into the “tape-in” weft. This weft comes in a longer piece in order to cut without raveling apart. We can customize the size and where we want to insert this piece to fill in the crown, the sides of the head in order to give fullness as you can see in the models hair.

Our hair model had come into us 2 years ago with an orange broken head of hair that needed a 411 repairing situation. She has always wanted hair extensions but wasn’t sure how to go about it. We needed to address the broken off hair first, correct the hair color then we could add some length to her hair with hair extensions.

Gym hair extensions

hair extensions pulled up

We acheived the color, the cut, the machine weft hair extensions, tape in extensions in order to thicken up the sides without having the bulkiness of looking fake yet thick and long enough to pull her hair up when she went to the gym. Yes, you can sweat, you can pull it up and still look super sexy while working on the muscles.

The beauty of working with a variety of hair extensions such as I-tip, Fusion and beaded extensions gives us the advantage to customize your experience based on what you need for your hair. The new V-light extensions uses a fusion type of ultra violet light to cure the hair onto your natural hair is another new trend that gives more baby fine hair options.

If you are looking for professional recommendations to help your hair grow out and get healthy again with the help of hair extensions, we would be happy to turn your hair around.

Wouldn’t it feel great to run your hands through thick hair again like you used to have?

BEFORE: Fine hair before installing hair extensions

MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL

When you look in the mirror, you pull your fine hair into a pony tail to see if it has thickened up. Then you hold up your phone to take a picture to send to your friend. You ask, does my hair look like it’s growing?

This is a typical question we get at Indulge Salon. More times than not we have seen hairstyles that can make our hair look fuller but not necessarily longer. It gets stuck at a certain length usually at the top of the shoulder with frayed ends or the crown separates like nursing home hair. The hairline may look thinner because of hair loss. The density of the hair may have decreased over the years leaving you with half the amount you had in college.

Turning fine hair into longer thicker hair with hair extensions is a solution we have been doing for years with happy results.

Being one of those clients with fine hair, I can relate to my hairline thinning out from stress, longer hair that had fallen out with sparseness in the crown made me feel self conscious.  Even though I’ve been a professional hairstylist that has travelled all over the world learning hair extensions, I had the same problem my clients did. My was due to stress related issues that I knew would grow back however it did get stuck just below the shoulders but would NEVER get thick like I dreamed it would be.

As you can see in the images above Alex, had fine thin hair that was pre-lightened to a blonde beige color that looked amazing on her. Her hair extensions were colored to match giving it the rich dense look that made her look like a model. The AFTER image of installed machine weft hair extensions gave her the length she wanted.

The photo was taken with her camera in her bathroom light. Image was not touched up. We added 2 hand tied wefts that are thinner but still long and fuller looking to the crown area then we supported the sides that were baby fine and fragile with some tape ins that give instant thickness and fullness to fine hair.

Her after was stunning. She felt more confident with her look, she was able to finally have longer thicker hair with hair extensions that last up to two years with the proper home care then maintenanced in the salon every 8 – 10 weeks. What does maintenance look like?

We will remove all of the hair extensions to clean them, check them to make sure they are still in good condition. After coloring the natural hair with a demi permanent or pre-lightening the hair again, we process the colored hair then dry it and install the existing hair extensions for another 8 – 10 week cycle.

What happens to the natural hair growth? Surprisingly enough, the natural hair will start to grow with our Zenagen shampoo and serum used to help encourage hair growth. The hair will grow about 1/2″ per month on average. Now don’t be surprised if you have a growth spurt during seasons of the year. It has happened to all of us.

Do we customize the hair extensions? Yes, we have to do this for every single person that has a consultation with us. We will talk about hair colors that are best for your skin type, we will discuss length, thickness, maintenance in order to ensure you understand what you are going to experience with your new hair extensions. Because we have so many years of experience with tape ins, K-tips, fusion, machine weft, hand tied wefts, J-tied wefts and lastly hybrid brands we will try to determine which is best for your scalp to encourage hair growth.

Our goal is to have you grow your own hair if you can with the right home products such as shampoo and conditioner. Using the correct brushes make a huge difference in helping the shedding hair to be removed daily. It may sound complicated however it is way easier to manage hair extensions hair than your own hair.

Do I shampoo every day? You don’t have to. I personally enjoy shampooing my hair and conditioning it. Most of our hair extension clients will only shampoo and condition every other day because they like that they don’t have to. Sometimes, they will come in to let us shampoo their hair for them. They call it “hair day.”

If I have gray hair and need my roots touched up, do I have to wait 8 – 10 weeks? No, we will schedule you out to make sure that we touch up the roots in 4 weeks or less then stay on a color schedule. Then we will schedule your hair extension maintenance every 8-10 weeks along with your coloring touch up at that point.

If you are interested in a consultation, contact us at 717-846-4424 to schedule some tine. We always love to see what your hair looks like currently then send us a photo of what you want your hair to look like once you have your extensions installed. We have to design the color scheme, the haircut and the type of hair extensions to make your hair a reality.

One ways your hair is being damaged could be from your leave in conditioner? Is yours drying your hair out?
damaged hair

Damaged hair to healthy hair

Take a look at the bottom right image. This client came in for an emergency appointment to fix her hair. Her hair appeared to be dry and damaged. As I inquired more about what was going on with her hair, we discovered that she had just had her hair lightened (bleached) from another salon.

Her hair was turned blorange (mixture of blonde and orange) leaving the condition of the hair in dry rough shape. In addition to the color, it stopped in a line in the middle of the hair. See images above

She was blown away

As I spoke to her about her history and the products she was using, she revealed that she was using a protein product that was drying her hair out. What I find that most clients that use this particular product that their hair is overly dry, stiff and broken off. Oftentimes, the

curly gray hair with split ends

texture is super dry, brittle plus rough to the touch.

She thought we would have to cut her hair off to solve the problem. We didn’t have to. I suggested that we do a moisturizing treatment to give the hair the nutrients it needed. Moisture will always provide flexibility that allows the hair to move. Think about the ocean waves that move in and out along the sand. A good example is coarse gray hair that is stiff. Obviously, we need lots of moisture or leave in moisture  that keeps the hair flexible.

Some of the solutions to over dry hair can be Wella Dark Oil that helps heal the hair both inside and outside. We always recommend using this product in conditioner after washing for extremely dry hair. You can add Wella Dark Oil into hair products that are meant to be left in the hair.

Organic hair color

I the photo on the right, one of my personal clients is a nurse that loves her curly hair. She decided that she would try to grow her gray hair but just didn’t feel as vibrant as she usually does with her strawberry blonde copper hair. We had to choose a safer approach to color with her because she is mindful of living an organic lifestyle. We use Organic hair color on curly haired clients, natural hair clients if they want more of a plant based solution to their hair color. FYI, the process takes a little longer process but is worth it for my curly clients.

The opposite is true with protein. Protein is designed to strengthen creating stiffness which is great for over processed hair that is mushy, dead feeling.  Looking at the images of this client, you can see her hair was not evenly cut, dry ends, uneven color that needed lots of attention to get her hair back on track. To fix the hair, we started with a new hair color that got rid of the brassy color, conditioned the ends of her hair  to prevent any more broken hair. The after photo made me very proud of the work we did this day. It looks smooth and beautiful.

Broken uneven hair

BEFORE broken off hair from over processing

conditioned hair replenished

AFTER results of being moisturized and replenished

Other options for combating dry, over processed hair can be doing a color balance.

What is a color balance?

A color balance is a deposit only color that will balance out the tones by adding a brighter tone that was once lost such as bright reds or any pastel color that doesn’t require a strong developer. It just adds the pigments that are missing. In the top picture you can see we added some reds to her orange hair. After conditioning her hair, the hair was able to accept the color we applied. Her hair looked totally different. It looked hydrated and shiny before she left. Again, by analyzing the hair properly allows us to provide the best solutions for our clients.

Hair Extensions to thicken, protect and add length

The awesome opportunity to add hair extensions is exciting to our client’s hair will be exciting because the hair extension will thicken the natural hair plus it will take the brunt of being pulled up in a ponytail, it will take the stretching better because of the nature of the hair extension. Look at the before and after of this client Regina.

2.5 years ago, my hair was thinning to the point I was

concerned that my hair wouldn’t grow back.

Due to the amount of stress I was undergoing from personal setbacks, my hair was taking the brunt of it. It was fine, thin and just hung on my neck looking stringy. Of course I was using Biotin but it wasn’t enough. I was getting more stressed by seeing the hair collect in the drain and my brush. I had a bald spot right in the front of my hairline. Worst area to cover up with root spray.

We lose 80-100 hairs a day naturally. New hairs replace the lost hairs.

You may not know this but the hair goes through the shedding phase daily.  Unfortunately, the hair that is thinning can be from other ways that start to compound to baldness. As you see in the picture below, the hair around the hairline was very thin from 8 months ago. The 2″-3″ of new growth that has stayed is a high achievement for her. When our bodies were younger, the hair growth spurts seemed faster but as we age, the process is slower.

Have you ever heard someone say, “my hair never seems to grow beyond a certain point.”

Small changes in hair habits can change your hair life.

I am a hairstylist that has been transforming hair for over 30 years correcting brassy hair, creating life changing color for my clients. When my hair started to thin out I was baffled. My client consultative skills had to be turned on me to just to figure it out how to grow my hair back. After examining what I do as a routine or “hair habit” then set out to adjust those damaging habits. There are many hair habits that were damaging beyond just the stress. Stress in the body can last up to 1 – 3 years.

Sleeping with my hair up in a pony tail is one of the worst habits to do. How do I know this? Because my hair broke off in the middle of my head in the back. Once day, the stylist was trimming my hair said, “Kimberly, you don’t have any hair in the middle of your head in the back.”  She turned me around for me to see the back of my head, she was right, no hair! All of the hair that was in the pony tail day after day was from the front sides of my head. Embarrassment mixed with the “what am I going to do?” became a priority. Strands cannot be deemed as long hair.

I started noticing my clients fine thin hair. We talked about what they were doing on a daily basis and figured that I was doing the same thing.

This one little change can stop breaking your hair immediately!

3 Questions to ask yourself

Did you find that you style your hair the same way every day?

Do you comb your hair the same way from the top of your head to the bottom of your hair?

Have you taken your products to the salon to see if you are using the right products for your hair?

Those three questions are one of many that we have to talk about in discovering the solutions to your hair habits. Solution One of the surest way to stop breaking your hair is to start brushing your hair from the bottom to the top. This allows the pesky hairs that knot up quickly to separate then move to the top of the head as a smooth transition. Solution two will be to use an excellent conditioner that helps detangle your hair before the brush or comb touches your hair. Solution three is to use one of our hair growing shampoo’s that is designed to grow hair. Solution four is a sure best to not break your hair is to use an elastic type of hair band that doesn’t break the hair when pulled up. Try to move your pony tail around the head to prevent the stress on the same areas day after day. (this was the biggest culprit of my breakage)

Our experienced stylists can suggest hair color ideas that will appear to make your hair thicker. A full consultation on the right haircut that gives more bulk to the hair giving the appearance of it looking thicker and fuller. When you come into the salon we will talk about home maintenance products to nourish, thicken and give volume to your hair.

Tiny changes to hair habits will establish big results quickly

With these small changes in hair habits, your hair will start to grow in conjunction with the right habits to give you the desire of hair goals. I know of many woman that have used the same brush that they had in high school. Why? Because nobody thought to ask or talk about which tools are the right ones to give them the correct result. The brush can wear out over time. The old hair that has shredded or broken off probably is still in the brush.

I had to change up the comb I used to start combing from bottom of the ends of the hair to the top of the head. That was an adjustment. I had to clean out my brush. My hair was fragile at that point. When I started using a hair growing shampoo, my scalp started itching and thought I had another problem. There wasn’t another problem it was the shampoo doing its job. My hair was growing in the follicles where hair was gone. Only lasted about a week then the itchy part stopped.

Are you eyeglasses causing hair breakage?

Hair breakage from glasses

Pulling glasses off can cause breakage

Yes!! Have you noticed that when you pull them off your face, some hair comes with them. Keep pulling the hair out of the eyeglasses will give you breakage that looks like frizzy hair. I’ve seen this time and again over years but it didn’t dawn on me until I had grabbed some hair along with my glasses. Be mindful of removing your glasses from your face. This immediate change will give you instant relief in your hair. It still takes 1/2″ a month to grow the hair but at least it’s not breaking off anymore.

After 30 days my hair felt thicker and fuller. I was getting compliments on how shiny my hair was. I started to gain some self confidence back from the changes that my hair was going through. People were coming up to me to compliment my hair. It was growing in to the point that the hair was thicker nearest the scalp and still fine and thin on the ends.

Jaw clips for pony tails stress fine thin hair. They break your hair every single time they are clasped.

Dream Catchers

Fusion/Resin type of adhesive for baby fine hair attachment of hair extensions to natural hair.

I stopped putting my hair up in pony tails because the hair was fragile. Once I stopped that, big improvements came faster and faster plus the added benefit of hair staying on my head. Many clients asked if I had hair extensions. I said no, that I wasn’t interested in them for myself. Another solution to fine thin hair is hair extensions. As you can see in the picture below, we added hair extensions to another client to make it look fuller and thicker.

Adding hair extensions in a slightly lighter color will give the concept of fuller thicker hair depending on the technique. This is especially effective for fine thin hair that shows through the scalp. This can be done with highlights two shades lighter than your natural color. Using hair growing shampoo that works. We have a strategy that has been used on hundreds of our clients in the right order to get the quickest and fastest results. Within two weeks, you will stop shedding hair. I thought it was a miracle when it happened to me. I was starting to love my hair for the first time in my entire life. I always have had fine hair but had no idea how much my hair was breaking off in addition to the stress shedding, lack of sleep not eating the right foods, lack of working out to get the blood flowing and who knows what else I wasn’t doing right for my own self care. For those of us that take care of another family member that takes all of our attention, you know what I’m talking about.

Stress can cause all kinds of negative effects long term. Most times you aren’t aware till the hair starts falling out. Then it becomes a top priority. Learn 5 myths about hair extensions thought to damage hair.

Hi, my name is Kimberly Acworth, Owner of Indulge Salons in York and Lake Oconee,Ga. I’ve been providing premium hair services to clients with fine hair that just stops growing, losing hair, shedding hair and suffering from hair loss over the 26 years of being in the hair industry. As you move through these myths that we will be debunking about hair extensions, you will feel more comfortable and educated with your stylist when it comes to maintenance and what to expect. If you would like to learn more, please go to my website at www.indulgesalon.com/services/natural-hair-extensions. We will show you many options, costs and maintenance ideas that should know before getting into hair extensions.

Myth #1. Hair Extensions will break my hair.

FACT. Hair extensions do not break off the hair. Pulling, tugging and yanking the hair can break the hair. The maintenance of the hair extensions on a daily basis with how the hair at the scalp is cared for in the proper approach will not break the hair. What you will see is that the average person sheds 80 – 100 hairs per day naturally. Those shedding hairs that are attached to the hair extension could come out depending on how strong the attached hair is to the scalp. The hair has to be brushed every day to prevent the hairs that are still attached from tangling into the other hairs that are shedding.

Every manufacturer of hair extensions has a set of instructions on how they are to be installed. If the installation is not done correctly, the hair extensions as they grow out can twist causing knotting that can cause the reaction to pull the knot out therefore tugging all of the additional weight onto the scalp causing tension and pressure to remove the knot. In some cases the extensions could “fuse” together causing a big ball of sticky glue and hair stuck together that cannot be removed but has to be cut out. There are many reasons for this situation.

Myth #2. Hair won’t grow with hair extensions.

FACT. Hair seems to grow faster because the natural hair finally has the chance to heal because the hair extensions are shielding the constant application of blow dryer, curling iron intense heat and flat iron heat. Hair on average grows 1/2″ per month. If fine hair isn’t able withstand the constant battle of heat, it can break. If the individual has medical concerns that cause hair to fall out or shed because of the side affect, then it would appear that the hair isn’t growing. Taking supplements to help assist in growth such as CollagenBlu which is a marine protein that can be taken orally does help grow hair plus give the body the additional supplement it needs for hair nutrition and energy.

Myth #3. I wont’ have to shampoo my hair extensions but once a week.

FACT. You will have to shampoo your hair 2 – 3x per week because the scalp is still underneath the hair extensions. By shampooing with a shampoo that cleans the scalp to free it of debris. Bad smells like oily scalp that hasn’t been washed in weeks could prevent hair from prematurely suffocating from buildup. Waxes, dry shampoo and other gray coverage waxes can build up as I said and clog pores.

The skin underneath is like the skin on your face and has to be cleansed. In some instances we recommend a scrub to exfoliate the buildup on the scalp. We have this conversation prior to installation about the health and care of the type of hair extensions that you will be wearing. Just like your face that needs scrubbed every day, the skin on the top of your head will need to be cleansed with non sulfate shampoo at the scalp twice. The hair mid length and ends must be cleansed too because it collects smells from the environment trapping them into the hair. It rubs on coats, car seats, pillows collecting bacteria, skin cells and will need nourishment from a conditioner. Natural hair extensions are human hair that requires a detangler, moisturizer or re-constructor depending on the type of hair that you have installed.

I have personally experienced seeing mold on the scalp from lack of shampooing properly. A strong suggestion would be to change your pillow case at least 2x per week. Don’t go to bed with your hair wet because the natural body heat and wet pillow case can attract bacteria therefore the perfect setting for mold to grow on the pillow case and at your scalp. Mold can build a habitat underneath braided wefts. Dandruff can be flaking which are dry skin cells wanting to shed normally but are trapped within the braided environment plus add to that dry shampoo or whatever styling agent is added to that little concoction. The itching is not good o watch either. Then you have skin cells underneath your fingernails… I could go on. Just wash your hair and hair extensions 2 – 3x per week. If you have questions about your situation, you can contact our salon at 717846.4424 (York, Pa) or 706.999.9911 (Lake Oconee, GA location)

Myth #4. Since I have hair extensions I don’t have to worry about pony tailing my hair.

FACT. This would naturally feel like you can pull the hair up and be done with it however; this is far from the truth. The heavier your extensions are the more weight is on your naturally fine hair. The more weight and tension that is pulling at the same spot on your head can literally pull your hair out because of the constant pulling. A good example would be box braids, braids that are pulled tight around the hairline from years since being a child into adulthood. Just as a person that has pulled their hair in the crown from tight pony tails could cause the hair to decrease in amount of hair that grows because it can become weak.

Move the pony tail around to different parts of head during the day or week. The top right of your crown, lower bottom loose braid or pony tail will give the hair a break from tension. Only use fabric type of hair holders such as the ones we recommend from Target.com

When it comes time to install hair extensions for maintenance, we do move the hair extensions around to take the pressure off the same spot preventing the tension areas. This can be done with tape-in’s, clamp extensions monthly. Other brands that are fused will have to be carefully removed then installed as a new set in surrounding areas.

Myth #5. If I have cancer or diabetes, I can’t have hair extensions.

FACT. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Of course you can however; consideration of the type of hair extensions would need to be discussed. A quick weight loss such as gastric bypass, cancer  or diabetes will have altered the body internally maybe causing weakness in the hair. Taking supplements to strengthen the hair follicle and hair are important, eating enough protein is essential to growing hair. The greens are essential to building blocks in amino acids internally to help re grow hair. Cancer survivors normally have baby fine hair that grows in and can be attached to the hair extensions. The weight and type of hair extension has to be considered so the baby fine hair doesn’t pull out because it is a different type of hair that needs to harden. An insulated clamp/bead would be perfect for this type of hair because the insulation will protect the hair however; the weight of hair or amount of hair in each extension has to be considered because as I said, the heavy weight of 20 – 30 hairs could put to much weight on the few hairs therefore pulling it out.

Ready for long hair to look like your dream wedding hair?

Every bride has her dream hair in mind. How does she achieve it before the wedding? We have the checklist to prepare your dream look with hair, makeup and skincare for your perfect wedding day. This includes hair extensions whether they are for fullness, texture, length and volume. We can even create customized highlights in your hair that look so natural nobody will even know but you and Indulge Salon. Ask about our wedding packages.

Hair that is fine, thin, shedding hair from stress, cancer, diabetes, vitamin deficiency or medical disease.

We have a solution to give you hair  that you had lost due to life’s events. This is not your fault. Kimberly, the Sr hair extensionist does cancer survivor hair extensions that are designed to give you your hair back. This is a temporary consideration depending  how strong your natural hair is to hold the weight of  tape in, resin, fusion or cylinder type of attachment. The point of providing a stringent detailed extension solution will give you the ability to style your hair the way you used to. Wouldn’t you love to put a curling iron to your hair and watch it curl then let it “boing”?

Read about Amber’s story. She is a professional with fine hair that just stopped growing. See her after photos with fusion hair extensions here.

Having hair again makes you feel like you. The ability to run your fingers through your hair feels normal. What is normal for you?

When I was I in beauty school, we were taught that our hair is an accessory but I believe hair is more than that. Our hair is part of our identity. People know us by a certain style they may have been created for our face shape and lifestyle. Our hair extensions can be a statement of defiance that rebels against the norms that we were brought up with such as a strict regulation by our parents.  Our hair extensions can be a statement of creativity with a variety of rainbow colors as graphic design. Those graphic designs in hair extensions can be colored in blocks, faded pastel colors, bright jewels that look like prisms. We can lift off limitations by enjoying long hair, short hair and volume with hair extensions that come in all different textures that mimic what you’ve have had in the past.

Hair gone? Hair strands?

We have the ability to provide wefts that are glued to the skin appropriate resin that is temporary. They can be re-used for the day or night. I did a blog post or people that pull their hair out  from nervous disorder called Tricholotillomania. See some before and after photos of what is possible. This solution  can last a day or two but is not a permanent solution. However; it is possible to help you break the habit over time. The example of this amazing women has been fighting the urge to pull her hair out since she was 14. As you can see in one of the photos of her hair actually growing back because she wasn’t pulling it out. I was very proud of her and the strength and courage it has taken for her to resist pulling her hair. The AFTER photo shows the highlighted wefts that were strategically placed to cover the balding areas. She was able to go to an event with confidence that weekend.

Hair broken off from over highlightening, over bleached,

over processing?

Call Indulge Salon immediately, schedule an appointment for a hair and scalp evaluation to make sure we can provide options for you.  Over processed  bleaching can burn hair off but can cause damage at the scalp causing open wounds that “weep”. We will suggest options such as appropriate conditioning treatments, a new haircut to trim off the burnt ends, consider shampoo for hair growth, supplements, and natural hair extensions to fill in the gaps for fuller looking hair if necessary.

Hair breakage can be devastating to the person that has experienced this situation. Emotionally this can be self deflating if you have been growing your hair out for years then all of a sudden the hair is short with uneven spots or worse dried out like a broom. Self confidence  can be diminished thinking that other’s are looking at you even when they may not be. Growing your hair out can take many months up to years to grow out along with using the right products as your hair grows out. Working with a salon professional that will be able to handle this level of damage is important to choose the right products and services for you while keeping your hair in good shape is important.

This past month has been full of incoming challenges to fix from other salons:

  • hair burnt off from chemicals being left on to long
  • hair broken and bristly from highlights being left on to long
  • hair looks like a broom that was splayed out with burnt ends
  • parts of the hair were missing 1/2″ from the scalp in parts of the head
  • hairline broken off from pony tail damage
  • strands of hair were left hanging on the head.
Broken uneven hair

BEFORE broken off hair from over processing

Listen to me folks, if you think or get the thought that you might be sitting under the dryer to long then you might want to ask the stylist to check you. IF you get that gut feeling that something isn’t quite right then maybe it isn’t and you ask the stylist to check your color again . If the color or bleach is on your highlighted hair to long than it most likely will break off when the cooler water hits it in the shampoo bowl. We carry the newest technology at our Indulge Salon, York, Pa locations that re-bond the hair inside while the hair lightens or darkens. The innovations in hair color treatments is spectacular especially when it comes to fragile hair. We are lucky to be partnered up with good companies that provide us with the right techniques to take best care of our clients.

Lighteners or bleaches have ingredients in them that when mixed with a developer  can cause damage if not handled properly. Hair salons are suppose to be professional by not leaving you alone. Cosmetologists go to classes to be updated with education to prevent damage to your hair and scalp and with the newest technology these days, it’s advisable that you ask when the stylist has been to the latest educational event or ask what type of new products do they have when it comes to lightening hair.

Salon professionals have a license for a reason. We are suppose to have advanced knowledge about products before we use them on a client. I am confronted with teary streaked faces that had just come from a a salon needing an emergency session! I feel bad for the client. I feel angry with the stylist that doesn’t have the education or skill certification to be doing the services.

You ask, “what can be done about my broken off hair Kimberly?”

First of all when it comes to hair that has broken off from chemical damage, we need to make sure the scalp is not damaged beyond the epidermis. If it is blistering or puss is coming out of wounds on the scalp, you will need to see a dermatologist and potentially a plastic surgeon. Yes, sessions like this can be this serious. Blisters can be developed in less than 3 seconds with strong metals in the well water or more alkaline water in the area. For example, if you live in an area that has well water, the ph level can be equivalent to a 14 which is like bleach water that you scrub your floors  to clean them. As a stylist, we need to be informed of medications that you take because whatever goes into your  body comes out through the hair, nails and skin. All ph levels for the hair should be around 4.5 – 5.5. There is much to know when working with the hair and the results of products such as shampoo and conditioners. I could go on and on but for the sake of this article today, I will leave it to the broken off hair due to chemical damage from over highlighting, bleaching incorrectly from other salons or from people trying to bleach their own hair which is disastrous.

We can do hair extensions to fill in IF you have enough hair to cover those installed. See our page on bridal hair extensions that I could into depth about the installation, maintenance and hair coloring extensions. If you have at least an inch at the scalp perhaps single strand extensions for a natural look. Still you will need about 6″ of natural hair to lay over the extensions. My suggestions are not an easy fix however immediately getting yourself to Indulge salon to evaluate your hair is a good idea!

Feel free to read our reviews, watch our videos on how to shampoo with the hair growing shampoo and more at FB:Indulgecolorsalon.

I know what it’s like to have lost hair from stress, thinning, shedding hair and breaking off at the back of my head from pony tails! I speak from experience. It took a year for my hair to grow back. It is still fine but fuller and thicker from using the right products.

Want the roadmap to fuller thicker hair this year?

I could give you the roadmap to the thicker fuller hair in a few short sentences but you know me, I have to explain it to you so that you understand what it takes to grow your hair.

One of the essential changes in hair as you shed hair, lose hair or it started thinning to the point you have to do something about it NOW. You know we are impatient and want it to grow out like playdough hair or a chia pet hair. I wish…

Since this doesn’t happen unless it might be a side effect from medications which does happen or you just started to thin out all of a sudden take a look at the changes in your hormones, testosterone changes for both men and women. Check what you put in your mouth.

Follow the 4 ways to thicker fuller here:

  1. babylights highlightsIf your hair is strong enough, introduce some babylight highlights that will make your hair thicker and fuller.  You can add lowlights and highlights however the goal is to fatten up your hair which bleach or high lift blondes do. Balayage highlights are beautiful but it won’t give you the natural fullness you need at the top of your head as much as it will the bottom of your hair. A semi permanent hair color will blend your hair, plump it for 6 weeks then you will be back where you were with fine limp hair. Some color will have protein in it that lasts and will plump the hair without the permanent result of color allowing the color pigments to gradually wash out or fade out. The spend could be from 65.00 – 175.00 depending on your length of hair and which type of color service you choose. Save $15 off your very first visit with us here.

2. Color your plate with colorful foods that are rich in Vitamin K such as Kale, Spinach, Green beans, Okra and Collard Greens. The more bright hues on your plate the healthier your foods for your body. Everything you put into your body will eventually come out through your nails (hard as nails) and the protein in your hair. The more potassium leafy greens and red fruits and vegetables like watermelon and tomatoes (think lycopene anti-aging) keeps  your skin looking younger, fights free radicals in the skin, cleans out your guts with the raw foods. Even though carrots have natural sugar, they are excellent for

our eyes and yams are better than potatoes which have way to much start in them naturally. For some good reads on vegetables in depth check these resources click here or check out some of the amazing articles that Women’s Health Magazine Jan-February 2017. According to nutritionist Ali Miller, R.D., author of Naturally Nourished she said when you uptake your blood sugar balancing fiber (oatmeal), energizing B vitamins mood stabilizing minerals like magnesium and anti-inflammatory antioxidants – nutrients often stripped away in processing and refining. (this is the bad part)Results will come quickly: A recent study found that 9 days on a meal plan low in fructose (soda sugar, juices, and many processed foods) cut levels of liver fat by 20 percent. Frankly, I wouldn’t have thought of the fat in the liver as much as fat around the belly. Ms Ali made a good point for us to  remember. https://www.mynewroots.org/cookbook/Sara Britton

3. Proper hair products that are designed to make your hair fuller thicker immediately and GROW YOUR HAIR. If you have baby fine hair it will grow. If you have baldness it will not, the hair is already dead.  We have seen the results from this Treatment shampoo and conditioner first hand. I’ve been using these products since April 2017 and my hair has grown back in by October 2017. My hair was shedding to the point that it was getting concerning with all of the hair collecting in my brush. the area around my temples was getting thinner and thinner. After I started doing the treatments

Collagen

Collagen helps grow hair. Available at Indulgepureoriginals.com/collagenblu or walk into Indulge Salon York pa

and the Density spray, my hair grew quickly and after 2 weeks my hair wasn’t falling out. I used the Collagenblu daily to supplement the protein as I discussed above. The additional protein was helpful. My hair loss was from stress and possibly not eating a well balanced diet. After 3 – 6 week period, my scalp was incredibly itchy which I didn’t think about my hair growing back in that quickly. I didn’t know what to expect but then I realized and felt the little nubs coming out of the top of my scalp. This is normal. Some of my clients felt this same thing others didn’t but still all of the clients that use this regime have experienced their hair growing back. We all say the same thing, “it works – I love shampooing my hair” Certainly can’t argue with what works.

4. Get moving with a jog, some physical activity to reduce the stress. It’s been proven that the more you move your body and bowels, the less toxic your body will be, the less stress will prevent robbing your body of essential nutrients that make your hair thin out. Add a Probiotic supplement to your diet to help get those intestines working at full capacity. You aren’t getting anywhere with the bloat from sitting around eating bad fast food, diet drinks loaded with sodium and essentially the burgers and fries just rot in your

gut with nowhere to go. Lifting weights, running, walking using some light weights may be effective for you to move the blood in your body. The oxygen that gets pumped through your body also reduces the stress related symptoms that can occur. The benefits outweigh the annoyance of getting started especially if you are able to see your body change in a positive way.

Bring on the new year new you for 2018Kimberly Acworth

Ready to try a new haircut and color

A part of letting go of the previous year is the art of allowing space for the new ideas for 2018. Feeling good about yourself for the new year is just as important as setting new goals. The saying, ” when you feel good,  you look good is so true.” According to the magazine HAIR PREVIEW 2018, the votes are in go for the bold, the pretty + daring = a new you! Apparently their are 523 New looks that you can take advantage of just in this magazine with cool colors of blue, pastel pinks, aqua or try some shiny wave hair techniques with wands or edge crops for short hair, or try some new styling options of part up and down with some braids.

Will losing weight affect my haircut?

Dropping unhealthy pounds will affect your current haircut because the hair can droop plus if you are cutting back on your proteins you may find that you lose hair along the way that is more than normal. I caution you to prevent the loss of hair with large amounts of weight loss to keep up with your protein supplements such as CollagenBlu is available here.  Collagenblu is derived from shellfish naturally with a boost of Vitamin C from Ascerola Cherries. We believe in Collagenblu because it counts as a protein serving according to Weight Watchers. Keep in mind that you still need your dark green vegetables such as kale, spinach, okra, and green beans. A nice supplement to your dietary needs can be adjusted by eating lentil beans, dark red or black kidney beans. With drastic weight loss, your face shape will slim around the cheeks and jawline allowing you to wear many more styles that suit your face shape and lifestyle.

As you feel more confident in your clothes, your new year new you attitude will be the perfect set up for a new haircut that will be shaped to your new face shape.

Working with an expert hairstylist, makeup artist, waxer, hair extensionist  can make a big difference in your transformation for 2018. Looking your best does not have to be expensive. A new look for a new year represents  new perspectives on:

  • what do you want to DO out of your life this year?
  • who do you want to BE this year?
  • what do you want to HAVE  in your life or remove out of your life

I personally found this thought provoking experience with a client that had a particularly bad 2017. Her hair was knotted up into two bunches that were not able to be removed. These knots looked like two horns sticking out of the back of head. These knots were from not combing her hair on a regular basis that one day led to another knotting the long hair into the shorter hairs that were already broken off. When this happens, it’s difficult to break these types of knots apart no matter how much conditioner is used. Then on top of the knotting, wetting the hair packs in the knots then the hair doesn’t dry totally leaving the hair smelling like wet dog. If gone unattended for to long, the scalp and hair will start to grow mold. She didn’t have mold growing however; the opportunity to grow mold could happen. This was hard for my client to let go of her hair even though it was so tightly knotted. I tried to help her with conditioner, argan oils, picking pieces of hair with a fine tooth comb in the hope of the knot letting loose. To no avail, it simply would take painstaking hours to try to remove the knot with no guarantee that it would work.

We came to the conclusion that I would have to cut through the bulk of the knots. As we spoke, I said since your 2017 was horrible then we should look at cutting out the bad stuff from her last year which would allow her to have a new outlook on her new year new look for 2018. She gritted her teeth saying she would rather have her long hair. I said, “I know but we have to let go of the old knotted hair to let the new hair grow in.” When we are going through changes its good to have our friends around to support us in our dreadful days and the good days. This client had her BFF with her. I admired their strength together.

watch this video on 4 short hairstyles that are cute and easy to style:  here

Short Bob haircut

Short Bob haircut

I felt inspired from behind the scenes about cutting off the old (year) and beginning a new year with her hair.

She would learn how to take care of her hair with some new styling tools at her disposal. Even though she wasn’t happy with her short hair, she was forced to face her NEW YEAR NEW YOU  for 2018.

Such as life, we are forced to look at ourselves in ways we weren’t expecting. Just like Pastor Bob says, “Kimberly, you come in with one objective and are surprised by another that becomes more apparent.” We make the best of our world we are given.

If you are ready for a New YEAR NEW YOU 2018, check our schedule here to see our availability. Feel more comfortable to call us at 717.846.4424.
