1. wear clean panties daily. If you have cysts or pimples or ingrown hairs in the pubic area, wear white undies that are bleached and clean. The more frequent changes the better. the thongs could irritate a freshly waxed area. Colored dies in the panties could irritate the skin.
2. no “indoor sports” after a waxing session, especially brazilian or the full undercarriage area. Prevents disease being spread and bacteria from all fluids Just save this for the next day.

Brazilian waxing for the first time will catch the hairs that are grown out to the size of a piece of rice. The hair grows at separate intervals. It’s important to note that we may not be able to wax every single hair at different growth rates therefore, we will wax and tweeze the lingering hairs.

By scheduling in another two – three weeks, we will catch the growth all at the same time till the hair is on the same cycle. We explain this at your consultation. We recommend a product called EPIL Comfort from Guinot  that will help retard the new growth to extend the length of your waxing service.

BEFORE underarm waxing

I decided to go native for a few months to prepare for my underarm waxing for the first time in my life.  Native meaning not shaving for a few months. Growing up we were taught hygiene habits of shaving every day although I didn’t enjoy shaving every day my hair doesn’t grow quickly. By looking at the photo it certainly looks like a furry animal!

I have to be honest, I was getting  uncomfortable with the length of my underarm hairs. I was cautious to not lift my arms up to far for fear that the longer hairs would dart out beneath the short sleeves of my shirt at work.

I was told by  our waxing professional at our South George Street location,  that the hair only needs to be as long as a piece of rice. Preferably 3 weeks of growth.

I visually understood that but mine was a pinch longer!  She told me that she would trim it down to the right length to make it easier to wax. The longer the hair means more painful! She makes it easy to understand and I felt totally comfortable with her approach. She analyzed my underarm hairs to see which way to start the waxing.  You have to understand the hairs have separate growth patterns that have to be handled differently. Waxing the wrong direction could cause ingrown hairs.

The type of wax used is important. She told me that hard wax is applied, left to cool, then peeled off quickly. Strip wax is wax that is softer that has to have a muslin strip applied on top then the waxed is peeled off. Take into consideration the types of waxes such as soft, hard, olive oil moisturizing, beeswax, lavender and so on. The harder waxes are generally used for coarser hair that is hard to remove.

I learned that the hair grows at different rates too. When the underarm waxing is done the first time after you have just shaved, some of the hairs will emerge after a week that were just under the skin. The 2nd underarm waxing will be more successful taking more hair out thus getting into a routine of waxing.

She sanitized, she applied the wax and gave it a rip! Wow……little more than pulling a bandaid off but truly, it was worth it. I said let’s get to the next one. I was done in less than 10 minutes. Love it and will do it again. Perfect timing for over lunch.  My recommendation is to make sure you wear something loose fitting. The underarms feel “warm” to the touch but she had a cooling agent that cooled own the fires from my first time.

I set up my appointment within 2 – 3 weeks to make sure I had my consistent appointment to prevent ingrown hairs, stay in a routine because to me, shaving was not worth it but waxing the underarms saved me time which is worth it.

Brazilian and Bikini Waxing

Indulge salon  is booking up for brazilian waxing, bikini, full body, and facial waxing at our South George Street location. Even under the arms! I had my done for the first time. I started off with the right underarm. I was a little embarassed since this was my first time. Initially the grow out was native for me. I didn’t dare wear short sleeves until I had them waxed.  The experience was awesome. The result was zero shaving for 3 weeks. I was hooked!

This summer has been the busiest with waxing services since we opened in 1992. We have brought on some new staff to meet your body waxing needs, facials for both men and women and chemical peels.

First time brazilian/bikini waxing? No worries, we got this!

If this is your first time, we will help you get comfortable by escorting you to a private room. Wear loose fitting clothes for your comfort for afterewards. All of your bits will be covered until needed. We have a numbing agent that can help your first time be more comfortable.  We will have you lie back on your back utilizing one leg at a time, then the other then the “down there” area. Brazilian waxing means removing all of the hair in the front to the back between the cheeks. Bikini waxing is just the bikini area leaving a landing strip or V shape. We have even done heart shapes for Valentine’s day!

Removing the waxing strip can be akin to a bandaid being pulled off. After the intial strip, you know what to expect. We always recommend a product called EPIL from Guinot that helps slow down the growth of the hair for home maintenance daily.

Our support staff is happy to answer any of your questions to help make you feel comfortable with the process. It’s clean, no double dipping the applicators into the wax. We dip it one time for each application to prevent bacteria from spreading and we like being sanitary. I had THE most wonderful day today doing some beautiful hair color on different styles of women. Some love their long hair, short hair and men and their shorter styles. I love the most particular discerning clients and they love me at our salon on South George Street, York PA.

I need to clear some things up for you when it comes to hair color conversation. Here  we go:

1. a “root touch up” is the new hair that has grown out from the scalp and needs some color applied to it.

2. a color balance, glazing, glossing is a color service that is applied from the mid lengths to ends. If we need more hair color mixed because your hair is longer or thicker, we have to charge you more for it.

3. partial highlights is the top of the head with two packets on each side of the face nearest the framing of the face to enhance your bones and overall appearance.

4. full highlights is the foil packets all over the head in a strategic pattern that will give you the result that you are looking for. After the highlights have processed, then the stylist will apply whats called a toner to tone the hair a more pastel color which makes the original color look shinier and brighter.

5. hair color glazing is a full bodied semi permanent color that will stain the hair for about 6-8 weeks and will need to be refreshed especially if the hair color is red because red fades the fastest because of the red die #7 thata is primarily used in Europe and not in the states.

The next time you are in the salon and you have a question about price or what the service will do for you, ask the stylist and they will be more than happy to get the aswer for you. In some cases with hair color that is going from blonde to dark, we will have to place a filler on the hair to help hold the darker color. If you choose not to have this applied to your color, your hair color will fade no matter how many tines you come in to the salon. Must have blonde hair filled to make the darker brown or brown reds to stay.

I’ve been noticing to many DIY’s. Shame to because the girls that I see are prettier but their hair is messed up trying to do these videos and well it makes us professionals look bad because we have spent thousdands of dollars towards our education to make educated decisions towards your hair and makeup. As you problem do the same, I discovered that my skin was incredibly itchy and I couldn’t get a release on that itchy problem. It wasn’t dry skin, it wasn’t dehydrated because I drink enough water to fill a camel hump on a hot day. That sounded good didn’t it? Well, when you are trying to manage your stress day to day it is a critical component linked to the relationship between the emotions and teh skin. The prevention of chronic inflammatory skin conditions, and new research has shown that the neuropeptides released by the skin when someone is under stress not only can create inflammation that is localized (like my itchy patches) can potentially trigger acne, roseacea or psoriasis – but can also travel to the brain.  I’ve seen really bad psoriasis and believe me you do not want this condition. It’s hard to get rid of and it can travel all through your body. Adult acne is not fun and as adult women we take this harder than when we were younger.

According to the dermatologist Dr. Richard Fried, who presented the skin-stress link at the Academy of Dermatology’s Summer Academy, neuropeptides that reach the brain can increase the reuptake of such neurotransmitters as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. All of these chemicals that regulate our emotinos. Remember I had just been to the brain class last month that talked about the rush we get when we do something whether its bad or good such as eating a bag of Hershey Golden Nuggets gets the same dopamine rush as a hit of Heroine. The brain does not know the difference. The brain does what we tell it to do and will respond with “let’s keep your body happy” It will seek out the happiness and basically rinse and repeat the activity just to keep you happy. If only our guys were more like this but thats for another topic.

Again, we’ve got this huge Dopamine rush from our activity that maybe it wasn’t a happy experience that utlimately results in a vicious stress-skin-stress cycle. Unaddressed stress may also affect skin carrier function (that’s were we at Indulge Salon in York Pa come in) allowing internal and external irritants to exacerbate conditions. Dr. Fried believes that a combination of stress management techniques such as yoga, mediations, tai chi cognitive behavioral therapy and skin therapies is the best approach to combating both problems. I didn’t have to have a doctorate to know that. No offense, I speak to women every day and I’d like to add that most women do everything for their families and nothing for themselves. Nothing. I see women working so hard on a daily basis to cook, clean, working and trying to elevate themselves in their careers and manage the structure to raise decent citizens that can be self sufficient.

The bonus to giving to yourself means that this is YOUR TIME and you need to be a pinch selfish with YOUR TIME so that you can give again. It’s like you are a well and the well gets close to drying up unless you give back to yourself. Our skin care therapists are so good at what they do that you don’t need to want for anything. You are comforted by laying back on a cushy table, creams  and lotions that will remedy your skin and heal your emotions while you are in a private comfortable room. She spreads her fingers confidently over your face and neck easing the stress from your body. If this is stress management, then by golly girls it’s our time and it cost less than medication.
