We have been introducing multiple new treatments to remedy or let’s say reduce the activities of our aging skin with chemical peels. In your mind, your thinking well time management Kimberly. Of course, I love productivity and making the best use of my time. Unfortunately, I feel like I play catch up in many areas especially with taking care of myself. Those of you that know me personally, know that I don’t get much sleep. Some of this by choice and other nights not. Daily living can really break your skin down and so can managed stress. I really don’t think I’m stressed however according to some studies I’ve been reading maybe I might have a little.

What is really on my mind right now is my skin and how I look in the mirror to see what is looking back at me is not the 20 year old skin I used to have. It used to be firm and sunken in at the right places. Truly, I fight hard to maintain some youth by eating Hershey Golden Almond Nuggets, McDonalds soda in the morning, five workouts a week and taking some really potent vitamins and supplements through Advocare. the happiest day of her life! her wedding day

Being a mother is the most special job that I’ve been assigned. I have the pleasure of inserting my thoughts and values to my children Alex and Carson for 25 years. One day I said to my daughter, “I’m surprised you have survived my parenting.” We laugh and giggled about that statement because I have done a lot of out of the box parenting.

I have had to work many hours at the salon, make dinner, do homework (chemistry was really out of my scope of knowledge) and teach her other day to day activities so that she could be a self sufficient person that could contribute to society. I knew exactly how I wanted to raise her since she has been three years old. I happen to acknowledge this when she went with me to a Dale Carnegie Class in Mechanicsburg. The topic was How to Win Friends and Influence People. I have to let you know while I was teaching my topic, (because this was a very interactive class), my three year old blonde haired beauty was creatively drawing on the back wall with her colorful crayons. Who knew she would be so creative? This talent has served her well planning for her wedding. She created some signs for the pie bar she had and a beautifully decorated pane of glass that indicated which beverages would be available. She also created her own invitations and designed a website for her big day. I’m so very proud of her and the decisions she has made for herself.

I’m grateful that I stuck to my guns on our values and beliefs. She is the most amazing person that I know. She is kind, grateful and generous to others. She has turned out to be such a dynamic business person in marketing Mexican Resturants in Texas. She is a character. Her humor is more of a Jim Carey funny. You never know what she is going to do.

My son, whom has survived my parenting for eighteen years, is a blessing to me and others around him. He has been able to impact people without saying a word. You see, he was shaken at eleven weeks of age to stop crying. Unfortunately, he suffered brain damage to the point that he is now 100% dependent on me and the nurses to care for his needs daily.  He lives at home. We flew Carson to Alex’s wedding so he could attend her big day.

My gift was given to me on Wednesday May 9th, 2012. I had been granted guardianship of my son which gives me the opportunity to protect him and make decisions on his behalf since he is considered and adult. So that day was a monumental day as a mother. I cried in happiness.

So what does mother’s day mean to you? I don’t know about you, but I’m glad I’ve had the privilege of being a mother to my two children. I hope you have a super mothers day!

Do you really have sensitive skin? More than 40% of Americans “believe” they do but not all of the self Doctoring proves true. Dermatologists check for the condition in part by asking a series of question such as:

• Does your skin typically turn red and blotchy when irritated?
• Is it prone to allergic reactions?
• Does your skin burn easily in the sun and windburn when outside?
• Does it flush from changes in temperatures both hot and cold?
• Is it dry, delicate and thin almost translucent?

When you are at home, study your face in a magnifying mirror preferrably with a light so you can see close up. The pores of sensitive skin tend to look pink due to inflammation. We are supposed to be getting average of seven to nine hours of sleep per night. Getting the proper amount of sleep will prevent the following: Sagging skin – “blood pressure is higher when you’re awake, and this causes fluids from your blood vessels to leach into your skin and stretch it slightly.” “over time, skin stays stretched. When you sleep, fluids in your face are absorbed into the body, but if you don’t get enough the fluids never fully reabsorb.

The effects are more noticeable around the eyes where the skin is thinner. Permanent dark circles – of course the same fluids that didn’t drain cause puffiness also deposit red blood cells in skin, which stay there and show through as permanent circles. He suggests using eye creams with L-absorbic acid will help somewhat but is not the cure all. Hyperpigmentation – my favorite since I have hit menopause in the fabulous forties.

Skimping on the sleep triggers activation of the proopiomelanocortin gene. (big word) this was commented on by dermatologist Leslie Bauman. She said, “it causes the body to produce excess pigment that can appear as freckles or spots on your face.” I can vouch for that. Think about getting more sleep girls! EEK! This was not good for my wrinkes which I can’t believe is happening to me. So I decided that I would make my own to my own specifications. There are a variety of fragrances because each person has their own tastes. We have Cocoa butter which is the majority of the ingredient and smells like chocolate. OF course if you are trying to watch what you are eating you can wear it instead of eating it! The other fragrances are Coconut, Citrus, and Unfragranced. These are primarily made of Ultra highly refined cocoa butter and soy so the bar lasts longer but you still get amazing moisturizing properties that penetrate the skin while you are wet in the shower.

The coolest part is that I discovered, right before you hop out of the shower you need to make sure you have massaged the butter into your skin to get the full benefit. Hop out, the cool air hits yours skin and closes it up therefore giving you the benefits of holding the moisturizer in longer. Just pat dry. They have been available at either salon.
