Gel manicures have proven they help support and protect flimsy nails. For about 20 years I’ve worn acrylic nails and was very happy with the way they looked till I received a green shade of fungus as a result of being in and out of water. Being a hairstylist working in water, hair color, bleaching processes and general rough handling of my nails they take a beating daily.

For many years, my nails were great until about a year ago, I had removed all of the acrylic and decided to go with the natural nail. I had avoided  touching anything. The nail beds were so thin and fragile. It hurt to touch any object after the removal. After about a month they started to be more normal, however; the appearance of the nails were a far cry from what I was used to. My nails were brittle, dry and you could see the drill smiles in the nail bed. One of my nails actually had ripped on the corner. The nail was so flimsy that it would bend backwards. I was really concerned that having acrylics on for so many years may have damaged my actual nail beds that I may not have been able to grow my nails out.

Hair color stained them because they were so porous and  looked like I was dragging my fingers through the dirt. Professionally speaking, a well shaped shorter squared off nail makes nails more polished looking. The nails are more proportionally shaped to enhance my hands.

Alex Acworth Crawford 29 weeks pregnant Mom -to-be

She hails from Pittsburgh, Pa brought here to Indulge Salon, York, Pa. If you have ever been plunked down in a new area where you don’t know anyone, you know how hard it is to get used to a new environment, finding new Dr’s, dentists, gynecologists, hairstylist, manicurist, garage for your car to be worked on and making new friends that might be a little different culturally than what you have been used to all your life. My daughter Alex Acworth Crawford did this when she went to college, then off Georgia, then to Texas for a new job and back again to Georgia. Its not easy meeting new people because you just aren’t confident enough about how you will be received. We understand and want to make her feel welcome with York County, Pa friends. She doesn’t know how wonderful our heritage is here in York and when you get the chance, please welcome her as we have. She is a gem.

As with all of our interviews for potential staff, we have to see their actual skills, meet with them to see if they are compatible with our culture within the salon. She had to do a model to show us her work. We were impressed with the natural nail manicure she provided on the model. It’s not often that you have a new nail technician that comes in with such a highly regarded appreciation for natural nails. She told us in Pittsburgh, Pa that the salon she worked in previously, they were moving towards the natural nail manicures and pedicures. She does enjoy the gel and shellac manicures and pedicures. Then on top of this, she surprised us by saying she is a professional massage therapist. She achieved a Bachelors of Art degree in addition to her Cosmetology license in Pittsburgh, Pa. Please note that she had to tell me that she is highly allergic to hair color and cannot apply or have her hands in the dyes that we use at the salon or she will break out. She  showed me a picture of her scalp when she had color done and how it broke out. Whew, her scalp looked painful and uncomfortable. With that being said, we are cool  with her staying over in the spa and front desk area. It’s already been her second week and she is booking up quickly.

I started re-reading a book by Rhonda Byrne called “The Power”. What I found was a really great chapter about relationships with others.What she says is Life presents everything to you so that you have choices as to whom and what you love. We have relationships with money, family, intimate partners, business associates and physical feelings towards things such as our cars, homes, furniture and stuff. As part of this gift we are given, we have the ability to choose what we love in people and we have the ability to turn away from what we don’t love.  We aren’t meant to manufacture love for qualities ina person you don’t love, but simply turn away without giving them any feeling.

Without giving them any feeling is not meant to hurt but to not give any energy towards that “feeling”. The feeling is what is energy either positive or negative. If you really don’t enjoy another persons qualities just relax about it and don’t hang out with them, don’t engage with them but you can respect them for who they are as a person. Be ok with someone else enjoying their gifts. This doesn’t mean that we are to argue with them or criticize or blame them in a personal relationship. I wanted to make a discerning point that if you have someone working for you that is not doing the job in the manner that you expect, you would want to be encouraged to walk them through what you expect not that you are trying to minimize them. We all have strengths and underdeveloped areas or areas that are not of interest.

My point today as Rhonda Byrne expresses that when you are a feeling of love then only the people who are on the same feeling frequency as you can come into your life. Some days you feel really happy, some days you are irritated and others you feel sad. You can be many versions of yourself. A person in a relationship with you can also have a variety of expressions within themselves. You must be happy to receive happy people into your life. We are not responsible for other people’s happiness. Everyone is responsible for themselves.
