Vincent Reedy for Holberg Designs. New haircut created by Kimberly at Indulge Salon, York Pa

What makes you think that a man wants the same ole’ same ole’ haircut? I happen to know for a fact they don’t want it the same way all of the time. When a man sits in my salon chair, they expect to get an exceptional haircut that suits their lifestyle, their INDIVIDUALITY.  The progressive man wants ideas about his skin, his hair!

Every day I am lucky to serve professionals with their haircutting needs with the most exceptional ideas to create a customized haircut for men. We collaborate their individual styles. I am so lucky to provide them with the best hair products to maintain their new hairstyle. My team of professionals at Indulge Salon, York Pa can give professional advice on skincare and nail care.

Lets take one of my special clients Vincent Reedy. He has been a client a client of mine for years. Originally, he was seeking out a salon that would be able to duplicate a look he saw in a magazine. He was searching for a creative stylist to cut his hair the way he wanted.

At our appointed time, the first step that happens is Vincent fishes out a photo from his pocket. It’s always the newest hair style for men that inspired him. You see Vincent is a really creative director at Holberg Designs. The company creates branding for companies, creates and designs websites, helps companies develop strategies in their branding pieces. By now you are understanding that Vincent has a creative streak and knows what he wants and how to project his individuality and uniqueness. He is a family man with an awesome wife and two cool kids. Just because he is a family man doesn’t mean he has to be boring.

Our last appointment this week, I  was so excited to see him because I had this great look that I saw in an article which inspired me to suggest

Indulge Salon York Pa

The Scumbag Barbers of Rotterdam list of haircuts

this newest clippered, textured haircut for him. Creating his individual look was easy for me because I know him and his textured hair. Customizing a haircut requires strategy in cutting angles on the  flat planes of the hair. We have the specialized haircutting techniques to cut angles on a curved surface. I know it may look easy but really the type of creative work we do takes focus on the details.

Sometimes its the simplest of things that will trigger an idea, a look that will look great on a person such as Vincent. I read this article about these unique barbers that basically are artists in their own right that have a list of the type of barbering cuts that the men can choose from when they visit this barber shop. This barber shop called “The Scumbags of Rotterdam” were showcased in a trade magazine called Behind the Chair. This barbershop has no appointments, you have to wait your turn and wait in line. They aren’t interested in the newest and greatest, they are interested in the art of the haircut. Pick one and we will do it. That’s it. I have the ultimate respect for the art of the barbered haircut.

I invite you to watch the transitional journey for Vincent Reedy. Our goal for his new look

Indulge Salon York Pa, Vincent Reedy

Vincent Reedy side view of newest haircut at Indulge Salon

is to grow out his beard with a shape that will define his face shape. His hair is going to be taking on a new transition with the clippered tight sides situating into the longer lengths on top. Stay tuned

Gentlemen!
I know what you’re thinking…
“Why would I go to a salon to get my hair cut when I can just go to the barber?”
To be honest, I felt the same way for a while. It seems so easy to run into the shop, get that 10 minute cut and run out. The issue that arises is that the creativity aspect of cutting becomes stagnant. Some shops just want you to get in and out to make a buck. I am not knocking down barber shops because I love them! I just think that a fresh, scissor-over-comb cut is what is really stylish now. Women are usually into guys who take care of themselves and keep up on their look!
I went to a barber shop a while back and asked for my hair to look very classic and “50’s” inspired. The barber who cut my hair was very nice and knowledgeable, but he didn’t have the skills to make my cut really stand out.
Here at indulge, the stylists CARE about your hair and personal style. Times are changing so we try and follow those trends that come and go in the hair industry. Men’s hair cuts are on the rise because we all want to look professional and neat and clean. Here are a few differences that I’ve encountered with a salon versus a barber shop:

-Shampoo
Everyone loves a great shampoo and our amazing team are trained at giving great washes. Treat Yourself!
-Cutting Techniques
Most barbers use clippers but we use techniques that will make your hair look polished. Texturizing is very important in men’s cuts. All of the stylists here are well trained in cuts and know all the best techniques for each persons hair. Scissor-over-comb cutting is another great technique that will keep the hair even with a more natural look. Yes, the stylists still use clippers but not just the #2 blade or attachment.
-Products
We can assure that you will have the best products available at your disposal. The shampoos and conditioners we use are high quality and you will always leave feeling clean and refreshed. We sell great men’s hair care products as well that I use personally. I perform on stage under high heat lamps and I need products that really stand up under the heat and stay in place while on stage.
-Attention to Detail
Our stylists thrive on perfecting cuts. You will always leave knowing your stylist gave all of their time and attention to making your hair perfect. They will speak to you about what YOU want and the best style for your hair. Our clients come first and we never rush you out the door.
Whether it’s that classic “50’s” look or a cool and trendy cut, Indulge is the new place for Men’s cuts! I have witnessed first hand how different salons can be and how beneficial they are to maintaining that great and classic cut. Don’t feel that it is too “girly” or expensive to go to a salon because I promise it’s not! Make your appointment today and please feel free to ask me any questions!

Luxury hair or luxury car?

I know what a choice right? I was in Independence, Ohio this past week learning new business processes to bring back to the salon world. My world. I am constantly introduced to new people, new concepts in business that I bring back to you, our customers at Indulge salon. I am always up for conversation regarding business if you every want to talk about these with me besides my love of haircutting and haircoloring.

I digress. I’m sitting in the middle of the conference room and the presenter says if you want to see my Mayback, it’s sitting out front of the hotel. I ask my neighbor, “what is a Mayback?”. My neighbor answers and I run out to the front of the hotel seeking this luxury car specimen. I was stunned at the sleekness of the car. I ask the driver whom drives all of this presenters cars’. Art says, “this car is $409,000.00” My mouth drops open at the price of such luxury and I again need to be in the know and ask “how many are there?”. He says, 1200 unique customized designed cars and this is one of them. To describe such luxury the back has a drop down tray for the business person that needs to work while he is being driven. Of course cup holders, custom interior in your favorite colors. The heated seats, the sun roof that can change from black to clear as though its open on a sunny clear day.

Maybach-Manufaktur was a German luxury car manufacturer. The company was founded in 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach and his son, originally a subsidiary of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH and was itself known as Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau GmbH until 1912.

To all of you that love luxury, I highly recommend this ride. http://www.topspeed.com/cars/maybach/2011-maybach-edition-125-ar116094/picture416852.html

I never thought it would get better than my current car but who knows? It felt good sitting in it!

It has happened again during my travels for business. You are most likely thinkng, “what has happened again?” Give me a minute and I’ll share it with you.

I’m excited to attend this business conference where I see some speakers that I look forward to hearing and to see some mutual conference goers that I only see at these events. Pretty much can catch up in about 15 minutes and you are good to go and move on to the next person to catch up amongst visiting the booths that are selling their wares. Fun and keeps me on top of my game. Well, let’s get to the topic of conversation that I want to talk about here in depth.

First of all, one of my conference goer friends is a male and is constantly swamped by the 2% females in a 95% male group. I would say the attendance is about 600. Let’s assume that most of the group is intellegent and with good intentions. I pretty much keep to myself except my few conference goers that we have mutually agreed to watch out for each other and rescue when needed. I have been called upon a few times to rescue my conference goer friend whom is a male because he is stalked by these few of women. I don’t get why women feel that they have to lower themselves in how they act at these functions. First of all, women need to act like they have manners such as ladylike manners towards others. Check this out, some of these women actually ran their hands of my friend while standing in line assuming he would like this approach. He told me he was horrified and left speachless. These women were professionals in their industry however didn’t act like it at this function and he was concerned and repelled by their behavior. One of the “she” cats explained that she is a cougar. Nice says my friend. He tried to get away from both of them but replaced by another that thought they had more in common than they did. Clearly, these women did not get the hint.
I think about this type of behavior later on and am truly disgusted with the way that some women behave, how they look in their appearance, and their approach to a business conference. Makes the rest of the women look bad as a representation. I for one cannot be around people like this. I mean come on, take one for the team and dress it up a little more. Blow dry and actually style your hair, apply some makeup to appear polished, and clean up the mouth. Literally, the cussing is not appropriate in business functions. Manners would be nice such as a thank you or no thank you might be nice to hear once and again. Even the men behaved better than the women at these functions.

We need to have a little more old fashioned manners amongst peer groups these days.

As I sat at dinner with one of my conference friends whom I do not see until the next conference, I realized that maybe the less I know the better. A little mystery from conference to conference is good and be choosy about whom you talk with and choose to move forward in the friendships that will either enhance your life with good stuff or just bring you down and no value will come of it. Topics of conversation that pop up should gently talk about business if its helpful to the other party. Know when to stop on your topic because droning on makes the other party sleepy and of course they want to be polite but don’t say anything. Gauge your topics of interest, if the other party is looking around, maybe they aren’t quite on board or they might be bored with your topic. Learn to ask questions of the other person instead of talking so much that they other party appears to be disinterested in your topic. Perhaps by asking questions you might act like you are interested in what they have to say. Some obvious indicators they are not interested in conversation are:

1. the other party looks away
2. the other party calls for separate checks from the wait staff
3. the other party gets up and leaves several times for the rest room or to take a call
4. the other party looks at their phone constantly (distraction) or
5. has a friend call them to come to their room or say they are needed

Topics that should not be brought up are:
1. sex with whomever that party had personal relations with ever
2. sex with whomever in the past at a previous conference
3. sex with whomever that conference if you are not interested in hearing about it

Now in my defense as a salon owner, I might not come across as a NASA scientist or anthing of that nature, but I can pretty much carry on a conversation about a multitude of topics which are easy enough on any topics. But really guys do you think women want to talk about stupid stuff all of the time? No they do not, they want to talk about meaningful topics not just idle chit chat that doesn’t lead to an important conversation. All I’m saying is do a little more research by asking questions then engage

I have had some really healthy topics of interest at times where I didnt want to leave however; they are few and far between. To those of you that are genuine, thank you.
My subscribers, I hope you choose your conference goers wisely. You know the saying, “birds of a feather flock together.” What does your flock say about you?

Men’s hairstyles are leaning closely towards the 1940’s. I’ve included a really cool website that talks about the lifestyle of the 1940s that is cute and fun.

I use to go with my grandfather to the barber shop when I was a young teen. This was our habit on a Saturday when my sister’s and I used to spend the weekend with our grandparents. My grandfather was a trucker driver for CF transport and he used to drive a good ole MAC truck. I remember it was green and had to “double clutch” in order to shift into separate gears. Pretty cool that just came to me as I was typing this into my updated blog. Those were the days when we would trolly along behind him like little ducklings. We used to sit and watch him have his hair clippered really short on the sides and tapered into the back along his neck which is called the nape of the cut.  This image is courtesy of Pinterest.

These newer styles in the fashion world  are called “undercuts”. Frankly, we have been performing these really cool undercuts for women and for men. It’s now just really coming to the forefront of fashion and being talked about. They are cool and they give men the appearance being more polished and professional. Even the rough and rugged clients look really hot and sexy with these types of cuts. Look for a photo shoot we will be doing for Father’s day! I have a special suprise for my blog readers.

My grandfather had this cut in this picture shown here:
