In my last poSalon York PA st I talked about Ombre—the French technique that creates a gradual transitioning of color—and how it is becoming so much more prevalent in fashion and home décor these days. Check out this beautiful dining room and how the color transition calms the room in an almost lyrical way.  It’s beautiful isn’t it? Trendy and current, but by no means something that seems more appropriate for your daughter’s first apartment instead of your more established and conservative home.

Salon York PA As this trend picks up momentum in other areas—especially home design which tends to have much longer staying power than trends in fashion and beauty—it might be time to reconsider how you can incorporate it into your personal style. If you aren’t sure you are ready to commit to the gradual change of hair color, how about playing with nail color ideas?

Check out these examples, one a bit more fun and edgy, the other, any woman—no matter how conservative—could easily pull off and start experiencing this exciting color technique. Call Indulge Salons 970 South George Street location at 717.846.4424 for a nail appointment and while you are there take a look at some of the Ombre techniques for hair color too. It just might grow on you!

There is nothing new about fashion and interior design inspiring and borrowing from one another. Think about the wild patterns of the 1960s and 1970s used in both wallpaper and dress fabric, or the bold, structured looks that became so prevalent in both how we dressed and decorated our homes in the 1980s and 1990s. Over the past few years we have seen the French technique of Ombre—a gradual transitioning of color—picking up more and more momentum.

You have likely seen Hollywood starlets sporting the blonde tips midway down their tresses. If you have a more conservative style, you might have thought “gee … I don’t know, that looks a little lazy … do you need a root touch up?” but just when it seemed the edgy trend may be over, it is appearing stronger than ever on the runway and in home décor.  Check out these home interiors and furniture that beautifully incorporate the technique for a fun yet sophisticated look.

Salon York PA Salon York PA Salon York PA Our guess is that with it as an emerging trend in these areas it will become more and more mainstream in hair color this year. After all, home décor trends last a bit longer than those in fashion and beauty so it’s likely to create more staying power and influence in those realms. Even the more conservative among you may be tempted to try some version of this now that you are seeing it everywhere else. Might we suggest more auburn or reddish tones in your brunette color if you are still resisting the blonde tips?

Call us at Indulge Salons York, PA at 717.846.4424 to discuss this hottest trend in hair color today!

Next up we will discuss Ombre in nail art. Let’s face it, that doesn’t take anywhere near the same courage or commitment and it might just be a safe way for you to experiment with this exciting trend.

I’m a sporadic spring cleaner. With random bursts of energy (or sometimes frustration …), I find myself tackling odd deep cleaning jobs in spurts.  Totally unplanned I’ll suddenly clean out the silverware drawer, wiping down all of the different compartments and replacing clean flatware, and then pleased with that minor accomplishment, I’ll move on to a kitchen cupboard. Anything but the plastic storage container cupboard — that’s beyond help in my house!

Anyway, this weekend I found myself cleaning out the bathroom closet and vanity. But more than just cleaning — I purged!!!  It’s funny, I haven’t used any other brand of lotions or body butter since I started Indulge Pure Originals, but for some reason I still had half empty bottles of drugstore stuff just hanging around. Not anymore! I got rid of expired sunscreens and medicated lotions, moisturizers I will never use. I cleaned and organized my makeup brushes and disposed of a few not worthy of saving.

Then I made a quick list of the few things I was low on and needed to replenish. Now, not only does everything have a nice clean place, it’s grouped together by type of product and is visually pleasing instead of cluttered. It was a pleasure to get ready in my spring-clean bathroom this morning! I challenge you to do the same.

Salon York PA

And please remember Indulge Pure Originals (https://www.indulgesalon.com/indulge-pure-originals) as you get your vanity spring-clean. I’ll write more on them later — but if you’ve tried them, it’s a great time to update them; and if you haven’t, it’s the perfect time to stop by either of our York salons at 970 South George Street or 2801 East Market Street and pick up a body butter bar and lotion.

Do you have spring fever too?!  I cannot wait to open windows and to see the first signs of new life and rejuvenation! Somehow spring fever and spring cleaning go hand-in-hand for me: it’s the urge for a fresh start and a realization that all of the little things I do to make my house a home are much more effective when my home is really clean.

Skin care is very much the same way. Without really clean skin, all of the products we use for a more youthful and fresh look often aren’t very effective—we just keep layering product on top of product and they don’t get through to our skin. Using a good exfoliate helps to slough off the uppermost layer of dead skin cells and remove pore-clogging dirt and oil.  The battery operated, soft-bristled, rotating brushes sold in drugstores may feel like they provide a deep clean, but it is important to use them on the lowest setting to minimize irritation. Be careful not to become obsessed with that clean feel you get from these brushes, as well as to not over use them or scrub to aggressively with them or it can mess up your pH balance.

If you need a fresh start in skin care, consider Guinot Paris Skincare treatments carried at Indulge Salons York, PA. This month Indulge Salons is discounting the combination of a Hydrodermie Lift facial that redefines facial contours with a Pro Collagen Treatment that Salon York PA rejuvenates mature skin with immediate results. This offer includes a Thermolift Masque which uses heat to push pro-collagen concentrates deep down into the layers of the dermis, leaving you with a younger, firmer, and relaxed appearance. The masque is followed by an anti-aging serum applied with gentle massage. We are also offering 15% OFF Guinot Paris Liftosome products including Serum Liftosome and Liftosome “Lifting” Cream that firms and tightens the skin from deep down with key ingredients of Pro Collagen and Vitamin E. Find out more at www.indulgesalon.com or call us at 717.846.4424 for an appointment now to get your face spring clean and ready!!!

We see generations of women come into Indulge, A Colour Salon 180 from Ordinary at all of our locations www.indulgesalon.com/locations  and as always we hear everything from the daughter graduating from high school, to which daughter is pregnant and the next is heart disease or ailments and which doctors they are seeing. We hear it all and we also can head off some difficult news by lending an ear or recommending certain doctors that have well known reputations for certain types of ailments that can be confronted.

http://www.clevelandclinic.org

The cool thing about women and networking is that women like to help women. They will give suggestions on whom to see as far as professional due to their own experiences. Heart disease is more common among women and more genetically passed through the family. The reason it runs through the families is because family members make the same mistakes in eating fatty foods, not enough exercise, and fall into the same patterns. Isn’t that great news? We can change our future by better choices. Some better choices may be:

a. Eat more nutrient rich foods. Eat seven to nince servings of fruit and veggies per day. Save all of your baked and friedc foods for the occasional treat. This basically keeps your cholesterol and blood pressure down.

b. GET SOME EXERCISE every day. Get out of the mind set that if your not going to the gym or doing the entire workout with DVD, you may as well not bother. I used to have this mindset myself. Since I started working out since last October, 2011 I used to do 5-6 days a week for about 1 hour. Now I realized and educated myself that I do not need to do that many days or that long of a period. Our bodies were designed to be rigorous to catch our meal by running after it in short spurts. I know, now we just pull up to the window or throw it in the microwave. How many calories do you burn doing that? Good cardio in shorter times will be so much more effective and better for your heart. After reading the “Paleo Diet” I learned that really if we did these exercises in shorter spurts we sweat and burn calories quicker and the body responds. Even if you feel like you can’t get through 30 minutes, just tell yourself I will get better, with more practice, I will master this work out. You should have seen me in the beginning. I could hardly get my legs up in a V and hold them there. Today, I can do it with no problem. JUST START. You can do this in 30 minutes three days per week. You will still maintain even if you feel the need for a Hershey Golden Almond Nugget. (my fave)

c. If you smoke, QUIT IT! smoking damages the protective lining around the arties. That totally sucks and you are causing. Change your mindset by choosing to replace it with some other activitiy that keeps your hands busy and your mind busy instead of the habit. Otherwise, you will go back to your bad stinky habit.

d. Sing opera out loud. You can do this in the shower or the car or sing wherever. Crazy but it lowers your blood pressure by as much as 25 percent. This is according the Harvard scientists. With higher blood pressure, the heart has to work harder which leads to heart attack.

e. Get to the dentist regularly. I’ve learned that a party of bacteria can lead to heart disease. My son used to take an antibiotic 1/2 hour before his dental appointment to prevent any bacteria that may have accumulated which can affect the heart. That nasty bacteria of the mouth can lead to a stroke or heart attack. Taking care of your mouth every three months even for a cleaning can prevent heart disease by 24 percent.

f. Laugh more. Life is to serious. Try 30 minutes of laughing at sitcoms or a favorite video opens up those arteries. Who knew? Being happy and telling yourself to be happy is by far a better healer than getting sucked into the negativity. Choose to be happy. When you are happy and doing small things for yourself such as having a facial treatment or a nail service or something that gives you happy endorphins puts good stuff in your veins naturally which will reduce any long term negative affects that would require medication. Allows your blood to flow freely and reduces your blood pressure, according to the study published in the American Journal of Cardiology. This technique lasts up to 24 hours.

I believe that with these simple techniques that were recommended by Randall Wright, M.D. director of teh Neurovascular Institute at the Conroe Regional Medical Center in Texas and auther of The WRight Choice: Your Family’s Prescription for Heathy Eating, Modern Fitness and Saving Money has given us super women weapons against “hereditary genes” for heart disease and stroke.

the happiest day of her life! her wedding day

Being a mother is the most special job that I’ve been assigned. I have the pleasure of inserting my thoughts and values to my children Alex and Carson for 25 years. One day I said to my daughter, “I’m surprised you have survived my parenting.” We laugh and giggled about that statement because I have done a lot of out of the box parenting.

I have had to work many hours at the salon, make dinner, do homework (chemistry was really out of my scope of knowledge) and teach her other day to day activities so that she could be a self sufficient person that could contribute to society. I knew exactly how I wanted to raise her since she has been three years old. I happen to acknowledge this when she went with me to a Dale Carnegie Class in Mechanicsburg. The topic was How to Win Friends and Influence People. I have to let you know while I was teaching my topic, (because this was a very interactive class), my three year old blonde haired beauty was creatively drawing on the back wall with her colorful crayons. Who knew she would be so creative? This talent has served her well planning for her wedding. She created some signs for the pie bar she had and a beautifully decorated pane of glass that indicated which beverages would be available. She also created her own invitations and designed a website for her big day. I’m so very proud of her and the decisions she has made for herself.

I’m grateful that I stuck to my guns on our values and beliefs. She is the most amazing person that I know. She is kind, grateful and generous to others. She has turned out to be such a dynamic business person in marketing Mexican Resturants in Texas. She is a character. Her humor is more of a Jim Carey funny. You never know what she is going to do.

My son, whom has survived my parenting for eighteen years, is a blessing to me and others around him. He has been able to impact people without saying a word. You see, he was shaken at eleven weeks of age to stop crying. Unfortunately, he suffered brain damage to the point that he is now 100% dependent on me and the nurses to care for his needs daily.  He lives at home. We flew Carson to Alex’s wedding so he could attend her big day.

My gift was given to me on Wednesday May 9th, 2012. I had been granted guardianship of my son which gives me the opportunity to protect him and make decisions on his behalf since he is considered and adult. So that day was a monumental day as a mother. I cried in happiness.

So what does mother’s day mean to you? I don’t know about you, but I’m glad I’ve had the privilege of being a mother to my two children. I hope you have a super mothers day!

Salon York PA Normally, I skim the yahoo headlines (briefly!) every morning before beginning my day, and lately, all I’ve been seeing are articles about our “economic climate,” stocks, and the feds, and,to be honest,…I’m sick of it.

My brain is overloaded by all the chitter chatter of the downturn of our economy. I studied economics in college, and yes, there are a zillion facets to our economic environment, and a million things that can have an impact on whether or not we are climbing up or sliding down.

Here’s what I think.

We all need to manage our own economic bubble. Plain and Simple.

Prices are constantly going to rise and fall, and it’s no surprise that our fruits and vegetables sections at the grocery store are always going to be more expensive. Let’s face it…we need to take responsibility for our own actions. Sometimes our desires outweigh our actual needs, and that is where the trouble lies. For example, I desperately want a couch from Pottery Barn. The soft fluff of the cushions, the cozy comfort, luxuriously silky fabric, the way I am perfectly propped whilst being snuggled ever so safe in the embrace of the cushions.

Here’s the reality- A Pottery Barn couch can cost upwards of $2000-3000 depending on the style. Last time I checked, my money tree was just a seedling. Here’s the point-I either make a decision to save money, then, once I have saved enough money, purchase my dream couch-OR-settle for a couch that resembles my beloved Pottery Barn. We need to manage our spending, our debt, our desires, our needs, and, in doing so, we’ll level out our own economic bubble. Additionally, we must not forget to give to those who are less fortunate than ourselves. There is always someone in this world who is worse off than you and me. By giving, we will receive ten-fold back. The Main Man will watch your back, whether you believe it or not.

If we manage our money, pay off debt, and save money to purchase the things we desire, we’ll turn our economy around, and will influence the National Economic environment as well.

If you have no idea how to begin managing your money start by reading these great books to help you understand your relationship with money: “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace D. Wattles, “Thoughts or Things” by Prentice Muldoon, “Automatic Millionaire” by David Back, and any book by Bob Proctor will be well worth the investment.

Let me know how your Money Tree Flourishes.

Salon York PA Searching Google on Sunday brought me to an amazing video blog by TheLipstickDiaries. I always like to research new and inventive ways to creatively do my hair in the morning. So, after watching the tutorial, I decided to try it out! The best part is that you don’t have to use a curling iron or flat iron to complete this Vintage Curls look.

Here’s what you need in order to try it yourself:

  1. A Hairband. One that isn’t too tight on your head. You don’t want it to cut off circulation at night.
  2. For fine hair: A spray-in volumizer. I recommend Pureology Pure Volume.
  3. For thick hair: A gloss. Run it through the ends of your hair to prevent frizz.

You’ll want to begin by showering. Then, I dried my hair about 80-90% dry. After that,Salon York PA I sprayed a few spritzes ofPureology Pure Volume at the scalp, and I would recommend a texturizer on the ends. Then, you take the hairband and tuck tufts of hair into the band, wrapping it around and under the band. With each section of hair, you will be creating curls all around your head. You’ll want to grab smaller sections of hair if you want tight curls, and large sections to create waves.

In the morning, your hair will look like a crazy mess, but I promise it will turn out okay once you style your hair.

Salon York PA So….Hopefully yours will look better than mind turned out,Salon York PA but here’s the jist of what your hair should look like in the morning…

<———Front——                                                                                                       —-Back———->

The final outcome of your hair will completely depend on your creativity. You can get ideas from the original tutorial on thelipstickdiaries web blog on Youtube.

The first thing you’ll want to do if you have fine hair is to spray your hair while still put up in the hair band. Spray it well.

Then, gently take the hair band out, and you’ll end up with some crazy curls, some tight, some loose. You might think that you didn’t do it correctly, but once you put some more product in it and comb out the curls it will turn out looking something like this..

My final ‘do looked like this today:

Salon York PA So I was flipping through the channels the other day, and stopped on the widely known America’s Next Top Model. I don’t watch it regularly so I have no idea what cycle it was, but it was interesting and quite insightful.

They had this drama coach on there who was teaching the girls about bringing out themselves (the inner self). They were supposed to do an exercise where they were given a pad of paper, and told to draw a picture of the little voice inside them that always said why they weren’t good enough, why they couldn’t do things, etc…You get the idea. Each of the girls drew the little voice inside their heads, and then the drama coach asked them to confront the picture while the coach held the picture. The coach would then act as the “little voice”, telling each girl that they weren’t good enough, weren’t able to model, and the girls would respond with “Yes, I am good enough…I am strong.”

Watching this exercise made me really think about all the times that “little voice” talks to me all the time. How many times do you listen to that voice in your head? How many times you let that voice talk you out of doing something, or encouraging you to do something you absolutely know is wrong. Why does that voice always show up and make you do the wrong instead of the right? When are we going to start listening to our “gut feeling” instead? We should be pumping ourselves up instead of listening to a voice that is always negative. We let our little voice put fear in us, and then we become afraid to do things that may challenge us and make us stronger in the end.

My point? Start ignoring that little voice and begin believing in that little angel on your shoulder-You know, the one encouraging you to go for things, reach past your comfort border.

Live life. Love life. Enjoy life.

Live your life…Full Throttle.

Salon York PA This is the last, Ladies and Gentlemen! The last part of How to Spring Clean Your Life. If you are just now joining us, you’ll want to go back to Part 12, and 3. You don’t want to miss an area of your life in which you could totally re-vamp!

Our last section is our Environment. Specifically, I am talking about your home, apartment, condo, duplex, cardboard box…Wherever you call home. Your surrounding environment is extremely important and, believe it or not, contributes to your overall health and wellbeing. If you are surrounding yourself with so much clutter and “things,” you need to take a day or days, depending on how severe, and literally, Spring Clean your Home. Here’s a list of things you’ll want to drop off at your local Goodwill or Salvation Army:

  1. Old books that you know are already gathering dust
  2. Clothing that you haven’t worn in years
  3. Clothing that still has the tags on it. If you haven’t worn it by now, then why did you buy it????
  4. Shoes that are decades too old and unfashionable (then again, we might be biased because this is an Indulge blog, and, of course, we’re into the latest fashions)
  5. CDs-Burn them to your computer, get rid of all of the cases and put into a larger CD case
  6. Knick-Knacky stuff-Do you really need it sitting there collecting dust?
  7. Comforters/Sheets-Get rid of the ones with holes or cut up to make dust cloths
  8. Anything else that is junking up your home (Take an honest look around and tell yourself what purpose does that item serve)

Your home should be relaxing and inviting. Choose paint colors that are soothing and encourage relaxation. Hint: Vibrant red, black, orange, neon anything do not encourage relaxation (in fact, they up your pulse-constantly putting your subconscious mood in overdrive-It’s like starbucks double shots ’round the clock. No Beuno!).

Once your home is windexed, dusted, organized, de-junked, bleached, and washed, it will be the epitome of  “Homey”. When you can come home to a clean, well managed environment, you will be less stressed, and you will have created a home in which to relax and feel at ease (which is the whole real definition of Spring Cleaning).

So-Good Luck! Let me know how the minor Spring cleaning improvements have affected your life.

As always,

Live your life…FULL THROTTLE!
