Will losing weight affect my haircut?

Dropping unhealthy pounds will affect your current haircut because the hair can droop plus if you are cutting back on your proteins you may find that you lose hair along the way that is more than normal. I personally found this thought provoking experience with a client that had a particularly bad 2017. Her hair was knotted up into two bunches that were not able to be removed. These knots looked like two horns sticking out of the back of head. These knots were from not combing her hair on a regular basis that one day led to another knotting the long hair into the shorter hairs that were already broken off. When this happens, it’s difficult to break these types of knots apart no matter how much conditioner is used. Then on top of the knotting, wetting the hair packs in the knots then the hair doesn’t dry totally leaving the hair smelling like wet dog. If gone unattended for to long, the scalp and hair will start to grow mold. She didn’t have mold growing however; the opportunity to grow mold could happen. This was hard for my client to let go of her hair even though it was so tightly knotted. I tried to help her with conditioner, argan oils, picking pieces of hair with a fine tooth comb in the hope of the knot letting loose. To no avail, it simply would take painstaking hours to try to remove the knot with no guarantee that it would work.

We came to the conclusion that I would have to cut through the bulk of the knots. As we spoke, I said since your 2017 was horrible then we should look at cutting out the bad stuff from her last year which would allow her to have a new outlook on her new year new look for 2018. She gritted her teeth saying she would rather have her long hair. I said, “I know but we have to let go of the old knotted hair to let the new hair grow in.” When we are going through changes its good to have our friends around to support us in our dreadful days and the good days. This client had her BFF with her. I admired their strength together.

Short Bob haircut

I felt inspired from behind the scenes about cutting off the old (year) and beginning a new year with her hair.

She would learn how to take care of her hair with some new styling tools at her disposal. Even though she wasn’t happy with her short hair, she was forced to face her NEW YEAR NEW YOU  for 2018.

Such as life, we are forced to look at ourselves in ways we weren’t expecting. Just like Pastor Bob says, “Kimberly, you come in with one objective and are surprised by another that becomes more apparent.” We make the best of our world we are given.

Here is Michele’s story:

She was trying to bleach her hair to make it lighter so in her efforts to get it really light she bleached her hair out 3x leaving it on for 90 minutes. The result is that her hair broke off. As you can see in her pictures, the hair around her hairline is short.  She ended up coming into the salon for a consultation for hair extensions. She was missing her long hair and it seemed that her hair wouldn’t grow longer than a certain length.

Her visit to Indulge Salon on South George Street was with Keni, a Sr Stylist of 15 years colored her hair to match the natural hair extensions. Busy day as usual at Indulge Salon on South George Street. My front desk coordinator mentioned that I had a hair extension consultation with a woman that needed to talk to me. I said, “great.” I love transformations and the excitement of the mystery woman would be fun.

The time came for a hair extension consultation. The attractive dark haired woman sat in my chair to have me evaluate what she had going on. I said, “tell me what’s on your mind.” She started to tell me what happened that brought her short bobbed haircut in and that she hated her short hair. When I tell you that she is really attractive I mean she had big eyes, dark brown to black hair and carried herself as a professional. She had thick hair. I thought this isn’t bad until she showed me some before pictures of her longer hair.

I had to look a little closer to fix her color by evening it out in tone. After fixing her hair color, I had to decide how to proceed with adding hair extensions that looked natural and moved naturally with such short thick hair. See BEFORE photo of our client Cindi Wycheck, York, Pa.

Side note: having super thick blunt hair can be challenging for a stylist to apply hair extensions to make them look like its your hair. We have to prevent those shorter hairs from sticking out of the longer hair extensions. This can be challenging if not done correctly with the right type of extensions such as fusion, tape-in or clamps. Even though we do a great job putting them in, what matters the most is the client can manage them at home by blow drying, styling and not using hot heating tools at the scalp.

Cindi was realistic with her situation. She didn’t feel like herself with short hair. She knew she could “live” with it but knew she wanted long hair like she did before she went to Florida.

As most clients that have never had hair extensions, they vasilate between the length, maintenance and cost of extensions. She gave herself the right amount of time to think about what she wanted and I gave her the options. We found at a critical time that the amount of hair extensions that we were using called Fusion were not going to be enought to cover her blunt ends. I had to keep in mind we didn’t want to break the bank either. We both knew the goal had to be to cover the blunt ends.

Another option was to cut her hair shorter in the back to blend the cut out part behind her ear  but we poo pooed that decision because she didn’t want her hair short. I installed tape-in hair extenstions for the top section to cover the other FUSION extensions. I strategically thinned out the blunt edges making them blend better. TheTAPE- IN hair extensions had to be put in on angles that suited pulling her hair up. I was pretty excited by the time we were done because I knew her hair looked so natural as if she hadn’t had her hair cut.

As a result, Cindi was a happy girl again. She felt like herself and could concentrate on her work without being self conscious of her short hair. The cool part of her hair extensions was that she is able to handle them, she can curl her natural hair, wash it, swim with them, and pull them up gently into a braid. She will be able to save money on haircuts because the hair extensions will protect her hair, Hair extension hair is much thicker therefore will lay over the shorter hair.  We were able to fill in the sparse areas that were cut out. That part made me feel good. It was such a pleasure to see Cindi smile again. I bet she won’t be having her friend cut her hair again. Still friends!

My daughter is not in the beauty industry. She works for one of the top professional golfers in the U.S during the day. She is a mother of twins and a wife. Sounds like enough doesn’t it ? Tired already. Not much different than your day right. Like many of us, we have a secret to be our personal best in what we are passionate about.

Alex Acworth Crawford is passionate about Crossfit. WODS, throwing weights up with snatches, dead lifts, and clean and jerks. I don’t really understand all of these terms but I do understand her incredible drive to achieve her personal best. Her highest weights of 240 lbs for a clean and jerk. I get the struggles to not get the weight up one day and the next day she over achieves in body form.

One day a few months ago she told me that she is going to compete. I said alright do it! She set the date for July 30, 2016. Her first set was 11:00 a.m. We were excited that she chose to do this event in Atlanta, GA. The Georgia Games was the event she and her husband were driving early  when I called to see how she was doing. She was a little nervous but that she expected this since it was a weightlifting event. Our conversations were about never know unless you do it and then you will know next time what to experience.

In that moment, I started reflecting back when she was in high school working out at the gym. Then after college she started getting into the high intensity workouts, then she was supplementing to make her body even more lean (mind set dedication). Her husband supports her with being her best by giving her advisement because he is a fitness professional (mentoring).  He encourages her daily to get her best workout in and she does him.

In Texas, she was hanging out (the crowd matters) with Crossfit people that expected to be their best and push each other as a team. Every team member mattered when competing. Alex hired a weightlifting coach to define her body (coach). I remember she told me she loved it and would come out of the workout all sweaty and loved every minute of it (worth the sacrifice). During the course of her passion, she has remained dedicated by sending me her workouts that are documented celebrating her best wins of the day. To date she is a winner in her own life and has built on her successes. I couldn’t be more prouder than I am of her, my daughter.

This experience is not unusual to any of us in any other industry or field of interest. We are are unsure at first at our first job. First client, first time answering the phone as a professional in a business. First training then put it to use. We mature as we “experience” the patterns of winning in our fields. Success doesn’t come easy. We learn our products then apply them. We wrap our lifestyle around our successes. We build on these patterns or experiences that we put in front of ourselves to achieve our personal best. The more we do the more confident we feel. That confidence turns into PUSHING ourselves to new heights in our levels of achievement. Training, education and mentoring helps us get where we want to go in our minds. Mindset is 90% of what we achieve the rest is phsyical doing it.

My daughter sent me this amazing photo of her smile of achievement. She didn’t know how she would end up but I can tell you that when my daughter sets her mind to something, it happens. She came in 3rd place with her weight class! She achieved her personal best out of 3 trys in each section. The point is she achieved HER personal best not someone elses. She had twins 1 year ago which is accomplishment in itself being a mother and as driven as she is I was already proud. Mostly, I’m proud because she knows what she can achieve for trying and experiencing her passion. Love you Alex Acworth Crawford!

Appreciate your professional administrative secretary that has helped you get the job done in your business.  They certainly are working with deadlines, making phone calls, appointments for clients, patients, residents, other vendors, making sure your typing is done, grammar is correct, filing, and having to listen to you talk about how much work you have to get done while they are faciliating “getting the job done.”

I’ve been working closely with my front desk salon coordinators on a mammoth project that doesn’t seem to end. We celebrate with high fives when we get through minimal phases. We are updating our salon software that has exposed every single inconsistency from a standard version that wasn’t a problem before but now is a glaring light beam.Once “we” get  this problem cleaned up, it will be smooth sailing for all of our front desk coordinators, our customers, and for me. I can’t wait. Frankly, I don’t have the time in a day to get this done myself. I truly appreciate all of the efforts from my team to get this project off our task list.

As a business owner, I speak for all owners and managers, we get caught up in the big picture of our business operations that we are not considering all of the secretaries, adminstrative professionals that help us clean up our brilliant ideas.

I admit that when these problems are exposed, our administrative professionals really want to tell us, “I’ve been telling you about this for months.” Well, this day on April 27, 2016 is all about celebrating you for telling us and we didn’t listen. I’ll say that we want to listen and we actually do, its just that we prioritize these things until they become a priority. This whole idea of honoring Adminstrative Professionals is about appreciation of all the hardwork they do for us.

Who created Administrative/Secretary’s Day?

National Professional Secretaries Week and National Secretary’s Day was created  in 1952 through the work of Harry F. Klemfuss of Young and Rubicam. Klemfuss recognized the importance and value of the position to a company or business. His goal was to encourage more women to become secretaries. Using his skill and experience in public relations, Klemfuss, promoted the values and importance of the job of secretaries. In doing so, he also created the holiday in recognition of the importance of secretaries.

The name of this special day has changed and evolved over the past few decades. But, the importance of recognizing these vital individuals remains. The two new terms in use today are: “Administrative Professionals” and “Executive Admins”. The two names sometimes mean different roles and responsibilities in different companies and organizations. Both are broader terms, that encompass more positions than the original “Secretary” role.

The name change recognizes and acknowledges that the role has changed significantly since 1952, and for the better at that. In Harry Klemfuss’ day, these positions were the realm of women. Today, you find males in these positions. Being a secretary was a prestigious position in the 50’s. Now, it’s more of a business position with clout and the “gatekeeper” to the owner.

The most common ways of recognizing your Administrative Professional(s) today are:

• Cards, often with shopping gift certificates

Indulge Salon York Pa, Indulge Salon Lake Oconee mentions Avril Lavigne and her fight

She is absolutely beautiful even though she is coming out of a tough health crisis. She opened up about her devastating disease that kept her bedridden for months, no energy, barely could eat and just want to sleep.

One of my friends from years ago was bitten by a nasty tick that left her face with some paralysis. She is beautiful and had experienced some of the same things that Avril had. My friend changed her eating habits to a total vegetarian experience. Both of these ladies didn’t know what was wrong when they were going through this with some X-rays and MRI’s that were showing symptoms of MS. Lyme’s disease is from a tick that shows the same results on the X-rays.

Not knowing what is wrong without knowing a definitive answer is lonely, depressing and frustrating for women/men dealing with the symptoms daily. Fatique is the biggest challenge with achy muscles that won’t hold you up can be like a wet blanket laying heavy on your body that you can’t move away from. Thankfully hope is out there.

Workshops are held at Indulge Salon York Pa on South George Street for staff to learn the the results of good credit and bad credit to purchase larger items

Learning to manage your credit is what our employees at Indulge Salon, York Pa were all about toay! We are proud to hold training classes for our staff to learn the value of a credit report for buying a house, new cars and in general just understanding what banks are looking for in a credit report. Our staff learned from Hope, the manager at Santander Bank on S Queen St, York Pa does many trainings to local businesses to help their employees learn how their financial management affects big purchases.

We are hosting Hope to help educate on personal money management, savings, the importance of repairing credit such as bankruptcy, divorce drama, identity theft and many other mistakes that can happen without your knowledge. She has many years of experience teaching people how to repair mistakes or working their way back up to good credit scores enabling them to purchase the items they want in their lifestyle. Credit worthiness is a term that our team learned today. I have discovered over the years that not all people have been taught to manage their money in healthy ways.

Where to start. Hmm first of all I get up in the morning and not in the least bit motivated to workout to the new PIYO which is pretty intense. Usually I like that workout but not this morning. I woke up grouchy. I warned everyone but they still came around me. I forewarned them. Just saying. The blinking red light that surrounded me should have said “danger, danger”

I drove to work, no accidents to speak of except some chick was in front of me with a car load of people that took forever to order and get their food. Don’t they know that the person behind them is in a rush to get to work and we don’t have time to lollygag around? Of course not, she had to PONDER which item she was order for the next person in the car. Being in my grouchy mood, I just did the hands opening posturing thing in hopes that she would speed along the order. Not today, it was a lazy kind of morning for her taking her good all time. Finally, I received my beverage and sped away to work.

As soon as I get to work, I was in a better place so I thought. The manager gives me the low down that the computer is still not up from yeserday but the electric is on. Such positive news after the bad. Nice positioning. The owners of the building told us that the electric would be out since they were working on the building. Great!!!! (sarcastic response here)

Computer guy on the shiny white horse picks up the server and says he has to do a diagnostic back at his office. I think to myself, we can’t make appointments, we can’t call people and we are up the shitter without a paddle. Going against the stream I might say. NOBODY knows who is coming or going at any of our locations for the next few days. Just what every salon owner dreams of….this type of back up plan. Needless to say, the clock battery that helps us stay on the imaginery schedule broke at 9:30 a.m. I mean it gets better as the day goes on. (sarcastic) We brought a table in that is super heavy and of course I expected it to be put together because I have a meeting on Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. However; the best news of the day indicated that the screws that were to be used are not the correct ones even though that was put into the table to keep it together. Now, I must adjust the meeting time and place. You know what I’m talking about with one more thing to do and to finalize the day, I received a note whilst working on a client that the school had a message for me about my son’s schooling.

Computer guy says MAYBE thursday. Uh, ugh that isn’t going to work for us cowboy. We have payroll this week. To all the business owners out there you know what I’m talking about. Our team made it work today with the walkins and we are wondering what time their appointment is as we stand at the desk with the deer in headlights look,  but we say no problem come  back to the magic area. We knew that we could work it out, its just the not knowing whom is showing up today. I was lucky I could get my mind to show up this morning. My body did and eventually the two did connect as one by 9:35 a.m. after the clock broke.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring. I hope you have a fun filled adventurous day!

Learn to celebrate working with people instead of just expecting others to make you happy. Each of our staff members bring a uniqueness to the team. The manager in the center of the fun makes sure that each of our girls on South George Street enjoy coming to work. You will always hear her planning a get together or next thing you know she is bringing in cupcakes with fabulous frosting with sprinkles! Who wouldn’t want to enjoy working in this environement? Or cinnamon gummy fish that find there way into your mouth in the back room. The team enjoys being together with all locations from East Market Street too! Being close is about depending on each other for the good and the not so good days.

I hope you are as fortunate as I am to have an amazing staff like this.
