Sr Stylist Conrad Heller joins Indulge Salon, York, Pa
He started at Indulge Salon in 2006 as a fresh stylist just learning to highlight and cut hair. Since then, he has bloomed into a well known, well traveled and advanced educated hair stylist. He has been featured in Fashion magazines in Lake Oconee, Georgia for his bridal work, hair color and long hair styling trends.
Since working for Indulge Salon in the early part of his career, the road less traveled led him to work for J Beverly Hills product line, providing in salon education to other salon owners.
In 2008, we opened our 3rd location at Reynolds Plantation, Lake Oconee, Greensboro, Ga and Conrad helped develop the team in that location. His specialties are Lace front wig application, coloring and cutting of wigs. Hair color correction involving in box color removal,, over depositing of color, over processed hair, too dark and too light. He loves the challenge of fixing someone’s hair.
Many of his talents lay with long hair styling for brides and bridal parties. He loves creating looks that have walked out of a magazine. By adding tape-in hair extensions to provide length and volume that give more support to some of the luxurious bridal updo’s.

When it comes to blonding, Conrad loves looking at his client’s face shape to enhance her best features. Not all blonding hair color is created equal. A full analyzation of the hair texture, the density of the hair and visualizing the outcome first will give ideas on the journey to the end result.
Foil Highlighting is done to create a heavier blonding foiled effect. The results are beautiful with this technique creating a blended but overall “lighter” look.
Balayage highlighting gives a natural grow out look that can last for months. It’s a french technique that means painted. All of the colors like this are customized to the persons natural look giving a sun kissed look.
Ombre’ highlighting is a heavier highlight done around the bottom perimeter of the hair. Balayage or foil highlighting can be done in conjunction with the types of highlghting giving a gorgeous affect.
The newest highlighting technique called Illuminage gives a blended look that illuminates the nuances of the base color with natural highlights.
He’s studied with the best – haircolor with Wella Professionals and celebrity stylist Nick Arrojo in New York City, J Beverly Hills (in Beverly Hills CA), plus advanced color training with master stylist Kimberly Acworth at Indulge! He’s also studied French and Japanese haircutting techniques with Jamison Shaw in Atlanta GA. When you book with Conrad you know you’re in good hands for multi-dimensional haircolor including balayage, ombre and illuminage, creative haircutting and hair extensions, Brazilian Blowouts and blow-dry styling, plus he’s equally adept in barbering for our male clientele. He especially loves working with blondes and pastels, and creating a custom look for special events like the exquisite color accents and hair extensions shown right.
Conrad will split his time between Pennsylvania and Georgia. The picture of us shown on the right was a few years ago when we got to catch up. We were at one of our favorite local eateries called Gatsby’s.

]]>Let’s take what you have and spice it up with some balayage or lowlights giving your hair some dimension and interest. Being a hair colorist gives so much satisfaction to change or transform a client’s hair. If you don’t want to permanently change the hair color, we can give you options by utilizing hair extensions to provide length, volume and thickness with as many colors as you would love to add. We can even add balayage or ombre’ colors to give an intensity to the color without the commitment.
Why don’t you take a few minutes to come into the salon for a consultation? We already know hair color but it might be great for you to see yourself in some new shades that bring excitement. Your skin color will look better. let’s add a new lips shade by Glo Minerals. We can give you a new haircut that will make your new red hair color sing!
If you don’t want red hair color, then you might want to read another blog post because this one is all about red hair color. Take a look at the picture to the right. This is an example of a client that wanted brighter copper red with some cooler tones.
Hair extensions were used to give length plus tonal change. These red hair extensions last about 4 – 5 months with the correct hair care management.
No matter if you want Terra Cotta hair color, Auburn red hair color, chestnut brown with red highlights, strawberry red hair color, we can make it happen. If you choose to rock out the hair with rainbow red mixed with pink, we can do it!
Time that is needed to remove old pigment is needed when you come in with old box color or from “another” salon. I found that removing the old color will give a better foundation for the new tones that we will be putting in your hair. We have this really cool color pigment remover that only removes the artificial pigment but doesn’t affect the natural hair color.
This process does take 45 minutes regardless of what we do to your hair, it’s all in the preparation. Sometimes,
I get the client that says, “I’ve been here for 5 hours….” I respond with, “yes, you have but that is what it takes when we remove color, shampoo, the we have to condition it with the correct protein enriched color or filling the color with the missing pigment.” So when you are in the salon that long, know that good things take lots of time and lots of knowledge to get you the result that you are looking for.
I coach my team that we never rush the progress. You as a client need to prepare with expectations. No rushing, no pressure on the stylists because we may be working with other clients while you are processing but it doesn’t mean you are any less important. Clearly, we have a difficult job to do.
Our relationships with our clients are very important. This is why we let you know what we are doing every step of the way. We may have an assistant cleanse a few times, or another stylist may be applying color in certain areas. We do what it takes to care for your hair.
Unfortunately, red hair color is tough to keep in according to the FDA. The red dye is regulated in the United States. Mostly RED DYE #7 is questionable. The United States has gotten more creative with their dyes. There are only so many dyes that are used in hair color especially red hair color dye.
Over the years with advanced private training under my belt, I’ve learned that no matter which color is used in the red hair color zone, you will need to visit the salon within 2 – 3 weeks from the initial hair color application. Then we keep submitting the red glossy tones to keep the pigment in the hair. All I can say is that it’s totally worth the effort in the beginning for a long term result.
We have some color pigments that will stay what seems like FOREVER! Then when you want to try something new it won’t leave like a bad boyfriend. We do everything we can to remove the old red pigment so be 100% sure that you want red hair color because we will make it happen for you.
Good question. As I said in the previous comments be sure of which red hair color that you want. What if you decided that red is not for you? Whether it’s box color, salon color, it can be removed with a product that actually will lighten the pigment out of the hair. Depending on the health of the hair, this process may take multiple appointments. Red color that is lightening can get stuck in the orange stage which isn’t pretty. If this happens, we have to change the color to deposit to either enhance or neutralize the color for the time being.
As the hair starts lightening, the hair will go through layers of lightening like red orange, orange, yellow and depending on how light you want the hair it may decide to not lighten anymore than it can withstand. We will only lighten as long as the hair will keep it’s integrity.
So many to choose from to home maintenance products. the cool thing is that their are red hair color shampoo’s, conditioners and leave in treatments. when you find the perfect red that makes it easier to choose from. We recommend using a red color conditioner so that you can manage the red tones that suit you personally.
k about our color conditioner mixed specifically for your hair color needs. Use 2 – 3x per week for best results. Call 717.84.4424 for an appointment. Please bring photos of what you like or don’t like.

]]>The post Going gray? Great expectations for maintenance appeared first on Salon York PA - Indulge Salon.
]]>Looking in the mirror every day seeing the gray hair peeking out amongst the brown, blonde or highlighted color treated hair that you have done for years every four weeks. You know the trend is speaking to you to let the natural gray hair grow out but can you handle the roots as they get bigger and bigger. Can your ego handle the change in color from gray to silver or white? Will your skin tone change with the grays?
Yes and no. if you already had some gray hair that is diffused throughout the rest of your natural hair, not that big of a deal to grow it out. Where the maintenance starts to get heady is when you have already been coloring every four weeks. Visiting the salon for retouches is scheduled then you decided to grow it out and you aren’t sure if you like it or not. Do you go for the biggy by having all of the color treated hair bleached out and toned to match the gray hair? Perhaps.
FYI: when removing any color treated hair that is espresso dark brown, chocolate brunettes, ravishing red heads and bombshell blondes can take hours to remove pigment from the hair. This is not an hour process so let’s make it clear that it may take more than one appointment to achieve a clear base THEN we have to tone the color to the perfect gray hair color for your skin coloring. If the hair does not lift appropriately or it gets stuck at a certain level, then we as professionals must make adjustments to that hair color that didn’t budge. What I’m talking about is the yellow, yellow orange and the brassy colors that just don’t want to leave the hair. when that happens, we have to change our strategy by using a different color to either lift the color up in a safe way or tone it the way it is darker gray or wait until the next visit to resume lifting the color out of the hair again. Professionals will keep the integrity of the hair intact regardless of what the client wants, the hair will tell us what it will or won’t be able to do.
Do you think that maybe you would like highlights to blend the gray with the previous colored hair? Perhaps. Let’s talk about options:
I had a client that was coloring her hair every 11 days till one day she said, ” I’m going to do it”. I said, “do what?””She said, “I’m going to go gray.”
This client speaks professionally and had to give the process a lot of thought on the reaction of herself, her husband and her colleagues. Appearance is everything, her hair and skin tone plus she had to think about how she would be perceived by her customers. Would they think that she looked old? Actually, she ended up looking younger. we changed her makeup, we changed the look of the gray hair by removing all of the old color, the old highlights and evened out the tone of her hair. she did end up having low maintenance hair, she did have more conditioned hair that didn’t change and she felt FREE. Free from coloring her hair every 11 days. she was happier about her decision to change her hair. We had been highlighting, coloring the roots, color balancing the ends to keep them from fading and cutting her hair every four weeks because she needed it and when she traveled, she had to maintain the top of her head with the root touch up to keep covering the gray. Now she doesn’t have to cover the gray. She is FREE from the coloring prison she felt she was in.
This is my client Maggie from Greensboro, GA. Once she went gray with her color she never went back. Congratulations on your bravery to go from brown to gray.

Kimberly Acworth and Alexandra from MUZE salon
Alexandra from MUZE salon in New York City and I had the pleasure of working with models on Sunday November 5th for hours diving into color pigments, the makeup of color to determine HOW to choose the right color for you. These 3 things help decide on what to choose as the END RESULT:
All of these factors and more play such an important part of choosing the right hair color for you. After 26 years of doing hair for my clients, I’m still lucky to experience the most advanced education that is available. Even better when you work with one of the many chemists that work with R & D of Wella hair color company.
When our blonde model came in we learned that she had over highlighted hair that was not giving her enough color. The technique we used was not the normal foil, we had used a blended balayage technique to create cool and warm in her hair that will work with her hairstyle either straight or her natural curl. As you can see she looks younger and more updated with her look. She learned how to create the curls that are soft and bouncty. Styling with the right products that are healthy can add to maintaining and preventing the hair color from fading.
Our second model came in with what appeared to be very dark hair. It was dark with box color that was applied over super highlighted hair that she loved. Unfortunately, after we did a strand test (yes, we still do those to prevent your hair from having a chemical haircut) We did a balayage that was natural and used a more gentle approach to a burgundy wine color that had juicy shots of bright auburn fall color throughout the ends. Her hair was breaking in the front where she braids and pulls it back. We spoke about cleansing the hair with a purify shampoo, or nioxin cleansing shampoo to prevent buildup from well water or product buildup.
Most women are not shampooing their hair every day as we see from magazines, the salons, or just not enough time in the day. This will help prevent buildup and keep the hair fresh and bright with whatever color you choose blonde, brunette or spicy red.
If you want to have the right hair color chosen for you, call 717.846.4424 or go to www.indulgesalon.com/onlinebookings to schedule an appointment today!

AFTER result of Caramel Bronde balayage/freelights highlights
Try this seasons Caramel Bronde balayage highlights that are so natural looking, they tone out the brassiest of colors giving the result of a natural soft blonde tone that is neither yellow or ash. It’s like the color of a baby fawn. Our newest color collection LeBeige from Wella Professional color line is the best tones that are soft and conditioning for brown hair going lighter with balayage, ombre’ or foils for any hair highlights.
When going from dark brown with highlights, the goal is to get rid of the brassy orange color. The best way is to use the right highlighting strategy to achieve the best tonal color against your skin tone. I highly recommend a professional consultation at Indulge Salon, York Pa known as the best hair color authority in York and Lake Oconee, GA.
No matter which color you choose, the strategy of placement plus technique plus the right color choice gives the hair the flow, feeling of touchability. How we apply the lightener to remove pre-existing color makes all of the difference. We want to prevent spots, lines, digitized (fancy word for faded and overlapped
color on natural hair that is not suppose to be) therefore, placement is everything to make the best of the color look natural. This can take about 30 – 40 minutes just to apply on long thick hair. Essentially we plan how the hair will look when it’s done before we even start it. Contouring color is the newest trends that resemble the makeup industry. Contouring your face is similar to using color to contour the hair with several shades lighter or darker to bring out the natural tones of the hair when light shines on it giving a gleam from light to dark. It’s not like ombre’ with the lighter ends, it’s more like the subtle lighting such as standing outside in the sun when the light reflects off the hair
If it’s your first appointment with Indulge Salon, please share which color

Thinking about trying this fun color? Here’s the scoop on everything you need to know!
It’s basically caramel and light brown tones blended together to give your hair that warm, sun-kissed glow. Soft, natural highlights that catch the light without looking overdone or fake.
Absolutely. It’s especially great on light to dark brown hair, but honestly, it suits lots of skin tones. That’s the beauty of it.
One of the best things about a caramel balayage? It’s super low maintenance. With a little love, color-safe shampoo, conditioner, and a touch-up here and there, you can enjoy that soft glow for 3–4 months.
Protect your hair from heat and the sun, and stick with products made especially for color-treated hair. That’s all you really need. Your color will stay shiny, vibrant, and gorgeous for ages.
At Indulge Salon, we’re all about giving you that perfect caramel bronde that looks amazing in real life, and in your selfies. ]]>The artistic placement of color shading to bring out the shape of the haircut design. These contouring colors are placed in the swell of a curl, along the edge of cut giving the illusion of choppiness, lightness at the curve of the head reflecting light. Strategically placed hair colors of dark to light, light to dark, warm to cool or cool to warm to mimic movement in the hair.
Imagine your makeup that you place to contour your cheeks, your eyes, and your jawline with a darker or lighter shade to bring out your best features for “affect”. The same works for Contouring Color only with lighteners to brighten and hair color to add depth. This is the most exciting time of year to bring out your best features with techniques that will express yourself.
When a stylist takes time to consider texture of hair, where the hair sits naturally on the face to determine what is best for your face shape and lifestyle is part of the consultation we do with all of our clients at Indulge Salon. After 25 years of being in the salon industry, I still spend the time to tweak new ideas for my long time clients.
Even short hair can have Contouring Color for hair. I did this one client whom travels 5 hours to have her hair colored and cut with me once a month. We created this amazing inspiration of blue jean color which was depth of a gray blue at the scalp then diffused towards the ends as a faded blue gray. This was one of my favorite hair colors that was iconic for me. We still talk about this color but have since moved on to the new grays along with a disconnected cut.
Customizing the hair with a new haircut and color is truly the ultimate for any person. Contouring Color for hair will give a personalized approach to the same old balayage that we have been doing for years. Here are some of the few techniques that are excellent for longer hair:
and beach waves using the new EIMI products to produce long lasting waves customized with Contouring Color to show off those waves after styling. This is artistic and crafted for each person.

2016 Fall Hair Coloring Trends. Model courtesy of Wella
This season adds glamour to natural hues, giving depth to blondes and lifting any color with nuances of matte reds, matte blondes, pearl, olive, coffee, caramel and mahogany. Think about all of the balayage highlights that have the natural sunlight effect. Now, we just melt color seemlessly in the next color with shadowed roots.
Shadowed roots start with a darker color at the scalp that melt into the next mid color towards the ends. The color is toned down with matted shades, caramels that are softer than the summer blondes. Brunettes are softened with a coffee tone. All of the hair colors are blended from root to ends.
The inspiration for these new hues for 2016 fall trends were from touchable
